Savage 111 rifle, I just mesured the action the female thread is .006 off to the left. Also I can't understand why barrels are centered on a thread. A

A barrel should have a precision male round, the receiver a precision female round. And enough thread to pull the barrel into the action. Instead I have a 26 inch bull barrel treaded losely in the action. With a small barrel nut holding a heavy 26 inch free floating barrel. I have a real question about this?

It is a barrel nut action. Get a nogo/go gauge set and follow the instructions. Basically screw barrel in till you have the correct headspace then tighten the barrel nut to pull the barrel tight.

If you're a precision machinist it might not make sense, but it's a Savage. It'll likely shoot better that way than most factory actions ever do.

I will question your measurement methods if you bought a Savage. A good set of measuring tools costs several rifles.

Oh, and if you want perfection get out the $. You'll pay a lot more than Savage prices.

Welcome to the forum.

I'm still trying to understand your thread title- what exactly you measured, and how...

Internal receiver threads "are .006 to the left"- of what?
"Barrels are centered on a thread"- huh?
