Morning guys,

I would like your input on my current situation. My firearm hobby has turned into a full blown problem. For the past few years I have been all about pistols and semi .223's. After cleaning out my childhood bed room I came across my old savage .243. I would like to hang on to this rifle because it was my first.

With the desire to get back into LR shooting I dusted her off and got the itch again.

My goal is an attainable 600 yards. Budget is set at 2500. So my options are a rem 700 5r or stick with the savage .243 and try to find a nice stock for it. New glass is set regardless of what I mount it on.

Has anyone seen stock made for these rifles? Are there custom stock makers that would fabricate something for ~800ish.

Just kicking around some ideas here. Chime in if you have anything to say

Measure the action screws should be 5.02 inches center to center. You could get a McMillan A series that fits your budget of 800.00.
Now if it was me i would contact Sharp Shooters Supply and get on the list for time and true on the action.Should have the old 3 screw trigger and SSS can tune those very easy(you can do yourself)with some new spring wire. Then i'd get a SSS recoil lug. As for a barrel SSS uses Douglas i cant give an opinion on these because i haven't received mine yet, its on order and i trust Fred the owner of SSS. There is also Northland shooters supply he has Mcgowen and shillen barrels in stock along with his own recoil lug.You have a long action and you could turn it into about anything as long as the mag feed in the action is opened up enough.I have done the above many times and it works great for me. I have a .300 win. mag. build going on now. Hope this helps............Danny
