Gunsmithing Savage shouldered barrel

I am getting ready to spin up a barrel for a friend and was wondering what the minimum shoulder height should be for a savage target action that has a 1.125x20 action thread. I am a little concerned that the barrel he wants to fit has a O.D. of 1.250 which will only leaves 1/16" shoulder. Will this be enough or should we find a different barrel?

I think there is more control over tolerances in a shouldered barrel plus we would have to turn the barrel down .125 for about 12" to make it look right.

I don't think it is enough shoulder but it is a common practice to use a shoulder that size. If you use a 1.200" Bartlein barrel on a 1-1/16" threaded action, that's about what you have. If the action has been trued, you probably have less than 1/16".

It's enough for my 30"hv barrel on my savage pta
