Looking at these Savage rimfires recently, and my head is spinning. I know their centerfire rifle designations are almost as confusing, but holy hell, the rimfires are insane; FV-SR, TRR-SR, BTVSS, BTVS, etc...

Anyhow, any of you folks who have the TRR, do you like the stock? Anyone been able to compare it against the standard FV-SR stock?

Also, if I purchased, just a basic Mark II, can you upgrade the stock on it to something like the TRR?

Thanks for the help.

Re: Savage TRR-SR Stock

Boyd's makes a stock much like the TRR. So yes, you can get a basic one and upgrade the stock. Compared to the FV-SR its much more expensive and meant to be more than just a woods gun, hence the contours and rails.

Re: Savage TRR-SR Stock

The F stock is plastic and flimsy... bends easy... if you want to use a sling for proper aiming support, forget it.

That said, Boyds is the OEM for Savage stocks, so you could do what I did for my 93- got the FV model, caught a sale at Boyds, got the BTV style stock for $50, and new bottom metal (and thick plate) from DIP for another $50... so I'm still into the gun less than a BTV would've cost ...

As to the model numbers, it is stock and barrel info - there are a few exceptions (BRJ has spiral fluted heavy barrel, TR has heavy), but generally V indicates the heavy barrel. SR is threaded and railed. XP indicates it comes with a cheap scope.
