Rifle Scopes Scope for 300WM hunting and mid range

I have a custom Rem 700 in 300WM that I will be using for hunting (max probably 350 yds) and playing around with mid range shooting (max probably 500 yds). Unfortunately I am not in the position to spend $1,200 or more for a scope right now.

So, I was looking at the Weaver Tactical 3-15x50 Ill EDMR (can get used one for $600) or the SWFA SS 3-15x42 (can get like new demo for $600). Both are 30mm tubes, mil/mil, and FFP. What are ya'lls thoughts between these two?

Are there others that you would recommend that would be in the same price range?

Pass on the Weaver
It's illumination is way too bright to be useful hunting in low light.

I haven't had a chance to play with the SS 3-15 but reports are good

I had a demo ss 3-15 on a 300wm briefly. I couldn't tell that it wasn't brand new. Pretty nice scope for the $, and held up well for about 20 rds of 300. It now resides on a 223 that I have yet to sight in. I'll probably get an ss hd 5-20 for the 300 (I currently have one of them on a 308).

How did you like the SS 3-15? How was the glass? Why did you move it, just wanted something with more magnifications?

The scopes that currently have my attention are:
- Weaver Tactical 3-15x50 Ill EDMR (FFP) $600 used
- Weaver Tactical 4-20X50 (FFP) $775 new
- SWFA SS 3-15x42 (FFP) $600 like new demo
- Vortex Viper HS-T 4-16x44 (SFP) $560 new
- Vortex PST 4-16x50 (SFP) $700 new

Any others in this price range that you would recommend?

I ran a Vortex Viper HS LR 4-16x50 on a 300 I had previously for hunting and it worked great for it.

Originally I had an ss fixed 10 power on the 223 just to get it going. I bought the ss3-15 for the 223, but stuck it on the 300 I am building just to try it out. It sits between the fixed 10 and the hd5-20 in terms of glass quality, maybe closer to the hd. The 300 will be wearing a 28" bull once it comes in. Since weight won't be an issue, I want a larger scope for it. The 42mm objective will look to small on it I believe. On a sporter weight rig, the 3-15 would be a better fit. One concern I would have, depending on how you hunt, is that the tall exposed turrets might get cumbersome. They might not be ideal for stalking etc... For fear they might get moved. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another 3-15, as it is alot of scope for the dough, imo.

I see you are in NE Texas. If you didn't know, swfa is in Red Oak, just south of Dallas on I-35. If you are close, you could visit their storefront and check out the scopes that interest you in person. I bought my three ss scopes there, as I live in the dfw area.
