I'm going to pick up a new scope for my Marlin Glenfield, since the one that came with it years ago is somewhat lacking... (to say the least). I have pretty much decided on a Vortex Crossfire II, but am trying to decide between the 2x7x32 rimfire or the 3x9x40. Neither have an adjustable parallax, and I'm pretty sure the 2x7 is set up more for the .22 (parallax is at 50yds as opposed to 100 on the 3x9)but the 3x9 to me seems like a better scope. And, to be simply honest about it, I hate the 32mm objective on the 2x7 since it is smaller than the eyepiece, which just bothers me aesthetically, unless it is just a straight tube like the Strike Eagle. Is the 3x9x40 overkill on a .22lr? (After mounting my new Gen2 PST, I have scope fever and want to rescope everything now....) Which direction would you guys go on this Marlin?

Fixed parallax is the biggest issue with a lot of scopes.
But on a scope that only goes to 9, does that really matter. I had a Bushnell 3x9x40 that did not have an adjustable parallax, and never had a problem with focus? Quite frankly, until I started looking at a 25 power scope, I never realized it was a thing...….

I had a Crossfire on a 22LR for a bit. If the reticle breaking hadn't prompted me to take it off after the first magazine, the focus issue would have shortly thereafter.

For the most part, I can deal with the margin of parallax error it introduces, but the inability to see the reticle in focus was something I wouldn't let slide.

Thanks for the input. I went today and picked up the Vortex 2-7 rimfire. As far as the reticle being in focus, out of the box I had to turn the adjustment 3/4 of a turn for my eyes, and it was as sharp as it could be. Yeah, in the big picture compared to some of my centerfire scopes, it's not much, but it's going on a .22lr.... very happy with it.
