I guess I could e-mail Seekins direct but I thought I'd ask it here first.

I'm looking at converting one of my 308s into a 7-08. I've seen some references to a long OAL in Seekins DBMs but my google-fu hasn't turned up definitive information comparing what you can feed in say an AI mag in a Badger BM.

Are the long bullets in the short action mag or are people using a WSM DBM?

    Thanks.

Edit: continued searching and I found the Seekins post. 2.9 in their standard mag.

What is the max mag length in an AI or AW mag?

    Re: Seekins DBM info

first I take it you are asking about a rem short action, with 7 08(you could put it in a long action)

seekins DBM uses AI or clone mags, if you scroll up a bit in the bolt section you will find the sticky: AW/AE/AICS mag differences

197 posts, I take it this has been answered/argued/beaten sufficiently

    Re: Seekins DBM info

They make a WSM dbm with proprietary magazines that accept about a 3.14 coal cartridge in a short action. It requires feed ramp notching and I believe a modification to the bolt stop in order to work. Obviously it is set up for WSM cases, but they confirmed it will also accept a 284 case with feed lip modification. I didn't ask about using a 308 based case in it so I can't help you there.

Thanks, I've read that AW/AE/AICS thread more than once and forgot about it.

There is an old post there that says:

    AW 10rd Mag 2.980 OAL
    AICS Mags 2.880 OAL
    AE 5rd Mag 2.925 OAL

and the Seekins 2.94 I guess.

I knew you couldn't feed AWs in a Remy 700 w/o receiver work, I forgot the difference in the AE and AICS. So if I interpret it correctly w/o a mod to the receiver the best you can do for OAL is the Seekins, otherwise you run AICS and you are limited to 2.880?
