Seekins ph3

Just watched the guns America YouTube. Looks interesting. Like the quick change barrels, although ths pinned collar seems like it might lend itself to play, and the supposed lightened bolt lift. It'll be interesting to see some start trickling out.
Not sure how they lightened the bolt lift going from a 90° to a 60° since that will give less of a mechanical advantage and you're trying to cock that firing pin the same amount with less ramp to do it. That said, I've never had a problem with any of my 90° bolts, Havak Hit included.

I was told by Seekins that old hit barrels work in the new hit rifle but not the other way around. New barrels won’t work on the old action.
I'm struggling to understand how this would work....all a barrel/action interface is is threads and headspace, which either work or they don't. How can it work for one but not the other?

AI AW/AX barrels will work on an AE but AE barrels won’t work on them. True AE barrels aren’t threaded under the lug. If the statement is accurate (I have no clue) I’d say something similar changed in those regards since the clamping paw is now inside the action instead of in front of the action on the rail. It could be just like the AI AE’s where the old ones weren’t threaded all the way to the shoulder and now they are. There could be a relief in the new tenons where they’ll still work in the old actions but the old barrels won’t work in the new. There’s plenty of ways they could be backwards compatible and it’s not as simple as a thread is a thread. It could also be the bolt nose recess and not be the threads at all.

Wouldn't the bolt nose recess affect headspacing and therefor only work one way? I'm curious from an engineering perspective to know how this all works.

what I’ve seen is the the new rifles support more of the case head. The new barrel tenon is slightly longer and would interfere with the bolt head of the old rifles

Sent my PH2 Seekins Stock back in for an Mlok rail addition for an arca rail.
  1. Contacted them and they emailed a RMA w/ FedEx label that afternoon.
  2. Shipped same day
  3. 10 days later(including TWO weekends) back home, MLok installed.
I just cannot say enough about their customer service! Looking at getting a PH-3 from Scheels next.

Curious if anyone has been running the Hit M3 with the double stack aw mags and how it is doing? And assuming they play nice together.... where is the best place to pick up a bunch of aw mags?

If you haven’t watched the full video where GunsAmerica interviewed Glen and went thru the rifle you should.

Very subjective here - I like everything about the rifle except the ugly ass bolt. They should have coated it black. Again, just MO and very subjective. After watching the video and his rationale behind everything he did I have to buy one. I’m in search of the 20” model in 6.5 creed.

I initially thought he made a very poor move going away from the 700 footprint, but I now see why and feel his way is better. All of the features of the rifle are well thought out even down to the trigger pins. Sign me up. He has designed a better mouse trap IMO.

Unpopular opinion, but I feel the only thing redeeming about the R700 footprint, in modern times, was its universal adoption.

I am happy to see folks come up with a “better mouse trap”

I rec'd my 7mm PRC PH3 in May. I really like it. The adjustable comb, the ultra light magazine, and the full length MLok are all cleverly done. I prefer stout barrels, so that too was a good fit for me. I immediately spent a couple days trying to understand what ammo types it seemed to prefer. For each ammo type I fired 2x 10rd groups at 100yds, with a suppressor, and used mean radius (MOA) to compare them. Results:

Federal Fusion Tipped 175gr .37 (Wow!)
Federal Fusion Ascent 170gr .46

The following ammo types all did the same at .61-.67 MOA
Hornady Precision Hunter 175gr ELD-X, Barnes Vortx 160gr LRX, Norma Bondstrike 165gr

Did less well. Hornady Outfitter 160gr CX, MR .91

Ai at and ax barrels fit on ae actions, but ae barrels will not work on at/ax. The ae had a unthreaded part on barrel journal that lug covered. The at/ax barrel that's fully threaded works with lug.

Any more feedback on this rifle? Especially if someone has both the ph2 and the ph3. I'd love to see a comparison.
Well, I'm loving the PH3 NRL 6.5CM, already on my second barrel. 3100 on my first one. The 60 degree throw is incredible. really liking it !! Great ergonomics, easy to get behind in all positions, check rest is very comfortable, don't have a bad word to say about it !ths 2025 5.jpg6882daafe132e4f6083abace.big.jpg2025 THS 1.jpgths 2025 7.jpg

^^^ The Element is an Al receiver. The PH3 is steel.

The PH3 is very nice. The bolt lift and the short throw are good. When I first shot mine, the bolt travel was sticky. The receiver I.D. has some surface marking/finish that looks a little like scraper flaking (it isn't), but the bolt body isn't surface hardened. The sticky-ness is going away, and it looks like it is from the bolt guide slot and bolt stop/guide friction. The detachable bolt head and handle means the bolt body can be colored or plated.

The stock is molded, so there are a few sharp edges around the cheek riser. The palm swell is big, so that's a love/hate thing. The interrupted receiver pic rail reduces weight but also reduces mount options...

Over all, I am very pleased with it. Mine shoots very well, and it's a hand-pleasing carry, and it balances nicely.

ETA: No .378" bolt heads yet. That's a drag

My Havak Hit (prior generation) had a little stickiness for the same reason when new. I put a bit of grease on the bolt guide/release tab, and some inside the guide channel on the bolt. It smoothed out a lot within about 250 rds/dry fires. It's buttery now. I noticed that it is also sensitive to off-angle leverage on the bolt, the more you run it directly fore/aft the smoother it is. Weird leverage through lever/knob can make it prone to sticking.

Is that on a HIT? Sorry, I was referring to the ph3. They have a print posted on their website for contour on the ph3 and it looked a lot smaller than m24
It’s all the PH3, it’s just in a different chassis or the stock which has a mini chassis in it. It should be the same but I’d call Seekins and ask or email them and ask to be sure because whatever they say is more accurate than here.

This is the print I saw on the PH3. The HIT has a different one that reflects a larger inlet for the M24 profile. I'll definitely reach out to them, because I'd like to use the QC barrel change to its fullest.
