I've been torn between these two for my next build. Either way I'm going with a Seekins billet upper, but I don't know if I want the proprietary SP3R or just the standard I can put the Geissele on? Any thoughts guys?

Oh, don't know if this helps, but I'm going with a 15" rail either way for the increased sight radius with my BUIS.

I've read lots of good things about kit from seekins, but personally I don't have any time on them to offer any informative opinion in regards to the comparision you resquested.

I have however had extensive time using numerous SMRs, and imho I believe they currently represent the cutting edge in quality, design, and overall functionality within the AR rail market segment. Lots of good other rails out there though like the URX3/4, Noveske NSR, or perhaps one of the older models from DD.

Perhaps some various different SMR setups might help since I can't offer much more in way of comparing them to the seekins :)

Mk4 proto sand 13"

Pre- production Mk1s in 13", and 15" black models

Pre- production Mk2 13" sand model

Lastly.....Mk1/ Mk2/ Mk4 13" rails side by side

Just because you opt for the SP3R rail does NOT mean you have to get the iRMT-3 upper with the integrally machined mounting block for the SP3R. The rails come complete with the adapter block that will allow you to run the SP3R with almost ANY standard AR-15 upper (billet or otherwise, including Seekins' own SP223 billet upper). That will give you some modularity down the road if you decide you ultimately don't care for the SP3R or you need to take your rifle in a new direction that does not include the SP3R.

As for which one...it really all comes down to an matter of personal preference as to which rail best suits your particular needs/wants in terms of features, etc. I have used both and find them to be quite different. The SP3R wins hands down for me based on the shape/size of the rail which really lends itself to improvised shooting positions given the flats along the sides and bottom of the rail which you won't find on the Geissele. The newer SP3R is setup for all manner of keymod accessories/rails/etc., which the Geissele is not (yet), which leaves you with some limitations (not a HUGE deal, but a big difference nonetheless). Both are very easy to install, but again, the edge goes to the SP3R (especially if you go with the iRMT-3 upper) as all you need is a 1-1/4" crowfoot wrench with whatever size drive matches your torque wrench to install the barrel, then chuck the rail on and a couple of torx screws later...you are DONE. Similarly though, once you get the Geissele proprietary nut on, it is as simple to remove/reinstall with only two screws and the indexing screw.

Yep yep. I didn't know it had the adapter to let me mount to another upper, but I didn't really care. I went with the iRMT-3 upper anyways. The SP3R handguard is pretty great, imo. The new keymod (v2) addition makes it work with .936 barrels and low-pro gas blocks (some minor fitting may be required).

I can't say anything about the Geiselle, but I love the fit, finish, and shape of the SP3R. Good luck choosing.

I've had equally great customer service experiences with both Geiselle and Seekins, fwiw.

Ive got the irmtr upper with an mcsr 15" and I really like how solid it is. I wouldnt run a seekins handguard without using their proprietary upper for no other reason than timing their barrel nut on a regular receiver is a huge pain in yhe ass.

Don;t have any really nice pics of my Seekins SP3G but here's a couple. I love the rail. Setting it on things it is so stable to shoot with. As with all Seekins gear it's top notch. If you have the Seekins upper you might as well go with the Seekins rail.

Before the paint

Im with Rob on this one. I love my Seekins iRMT3 Upper, SP3R Rail and Seekins lower.
Mine is a Short Action Customs (SAC) built 20" and Im getting 2-2.5 groups at 400. I stretched its legs after the last match and it was a hammer.
Targets were all 10-12" squares
Out to 600 first round center mass hits
700, just off the left edge followed up by a quick hold correction and bam. Center mass
Decided to go to 1k and ended up with the following results.
1st round - tad high
2nd round - off the left edge and a bit low.
3rd round - Impact
4th round - Impact
5th round - Impact

There were witnesses if you dont believe it. Shooting 77SMK's right at 2704. I couldnt be happier.

Here's a couple pics of mine before I got it barreled up, etc. I'll try to update my SP223 AR Project thread with new, more "complete" pics soon....haven't had time to fool with taking addt'l pics lately. ;)

Thanks for all the info there everyone. Looks like all I have to do now is decide which would work better for what I'm going to be doing with it. Hopefully some 3 gun. Also what I think looks better. Thanks again everyone.
