So I have a 6.5SAUM has 26 inch barrel and with suppressor installed its a bit of a pig to cart round the hills here. I am about to ship it off to have the action replaced with a Defiance (original M700 action with no primary extraction since new and despite 4 or 5 attempts by the supplier to sort it over 5 years is still a dog) as I am sick of trying to get it sorted. I am thinking since its really a hunting rifle of having the barrel shorted to maybe 20-22 inches (I would even consider 18 inches) as I don't believe since I don't generally shoot animals past 300-400m nor is it a range rifle I have 2 of thos already.

Anyone running a shortened SAUM halp me with expected velocities. With 26 inch barrel I get 3180fls with 140 Accubonds

Cheers in advance

I was in a similar boat. 25" barrel with 7" can was a PITA carrying on pack and through downfalls out west. Chopped to 20" and haven't looked back. 6.5 Saum with 20" barrel, 143 eldx at 3015.

Following. I built a 20" PRC for a mountain rifle but haven't chrono'd yet.

I did a 20” 6.5 PRC which would run a 140 at 2,950 FPS and a 20” 6.5 SAUM that did 3,025 FPS with the same bullet.

On the 6.5 PRC factory ammo was slow. The 143 Precision Hunter chronographed at 2,850 FPS (20” barrel + Rugged 762 suppressor).

Thanks for all your replies to date, keep them comming :D

I had a 23" 6.5 WSM and it would send 124 grain Hammer Hunter bullets at almost 3300 fps with H1000. I'd bet a 20" would do 3150+ . Hammer bullets are great for reasonable range hunting and they can be driven really fast.
