My nephew is being deployed to Afganistahn this fall and needs a shoulder holster rig to carry a M92F. He's a pilot and is required to carry a weapon at all times. Concealment is not required, or even desired, for this rig. Does anyone have any suggestions for a QUALITY shoulder rig that points the muzzle down?

El Paso Saddlery makes a line of quality military holsters. Patton preffered them.

Im a traditionalist. There are better tactical/more functional choices out there.

I'm a blackhawk pilot and the last time I went to Afghanistan,
I started out with a Fobus shoulder/paddle combo. I ended up just using the paddle and carried it on my hip when I was off duty and ordered a Galco shoulder rig for on duty. The Galco was comfortable and worked well with my body armor and flight vest. It's going with me when I leave again in a few months. Just my experience from the 'Stan.

Flew the UH-60 in Iraq and Kuwait with a G-Code holster with their RTI mounting hardware. One holster that is easily transitioned to another platform in seconds but holds securely. I had a mount on my flight vest and wore a leg rig for on-call duty. For wear around the FOB, you can get the belt slide if that is preferrable. While in PT's, I bought a cheap shoulder holster from the PX. The G-Code RTI is a very nice system and good holsters.

reelman,
Holsters are a fairly personal item. I have a footlocker full of holsters that did not work out right for me (most of which I bought). I wore a Galco Miami Classic for a Glock 23 during a six year stint in plain clothes. I liked the option for a spare mag, surefire light and a set of cuffs offsetting the weight of the pistol. I still keep it set up this way in the lock box at home. Even if I roll out of bed buck neekked in the middle of the night, I can grab the essentials in one swoop.

Are you trying to buy one for him, or just looking for suggestions? My suggestion is this, do the latter, not the former.

Triad, I agree with you about them being personal and while I would gladly buy one for him you're correct that he should pick it out. I gave him a Beretta M92 after finding out that his total training with his issue one was 30 minutes of dry firing and on magazine of live fire! I'm just looking for suggestions and will pass them on to him.
