Anyone use these rounds? Thoughts, feelings? I checked these things out and look promising but can't find much about them or peoples reviews on them outside what you read on midway and other sites.

They have a good BC at .504 @ 2700fps or more per sierra, nearly matching the 175 SMK but with higher velocity. How do they compare to the 175's short and long range? I did run some numbers through JBM ballistics and were similar but I want to get some real world experiences.

If you talking Sierra #2156 bullet they are GTG in my TRG 22. I shoot 155 Berger match targets but since they are to be discontinued in March this year looked for alternate and the 2156 is VERY close to matching accuracy of the Berger which is 1/2 MOA out to 600 yards.

Yes that's the one. Where did you read they were being discontinued? What is the replacement, the 155 HPBT matchking(2155)? They don't match up. Which bergers did you find was very close?

    2155 is a different bullet than 2156

I shoot the 2156 and love it. Easily one of my favorite bullets out there.

The Berger 155 target match #30409 is being discontinued not the 2156 Sierra. The 2156 is one of the bullet's I'm testing to replace the Berger 155 as my light bullet and so far it's dang close but NOT quite there in my TRG 22. To date I have also tried the 155.5 Berger #30416 BT fullbore not enough testing done on it yet but to date not impressive.

I started using the 2155, after I couldn't get the 168's I was used to, to shoot in my DPMS 10twist rifle. I liked them well enough to start some load tests in my rem 700. I bought the new Sierra manual and I have only found the 2155's listed and they are being called the Palma's in said book. I wonder if they have done away with the SMK and went all Palma with the 2155 part number. I've load the 2155's over 43.5 to 46.0 of varget in half grain lots. The 46's are the only ones that have shown Increased accuracy. I will load some more from 46 to 47 in .2 grain lots. Maybe I'm not pushing them fast enough yet but, I'm expecting them to be my new favorite .308 projectile.

Ahh, got it. A simple case of misunderstanding. I was kind of wondering why sierra would replace a new designed round especially a high BC for a light skinny .30. Good to know too, for the price they look good.

How is its ballistics compared to the 175 SMK?

Re: Sierra .308 155Grain Palma Hollow Point

I was wondering the same thing about these projectiles. Preliminary testing with these bullets (2156s) showed that 45gr of RL15 in a Lapua case gets me a solid 2800 fps. I only had 15 of these rounds loaded up and I was only shooting at 100 yards, but still, the three groups ranged from around .15" to .35" so I know that there is potential. If I were to do a little extrapolation based on my experience with my rifle, a bump up to around 46.5gr of RL15 should get me to a solid 2900 fps. This makes for a much flatter trajectory than the 175 SMK moving at 2600 or so fps. It shot softer too.

All I'm looking to do is get to 600 yards and was hoping to get some info on these bullets as well. I just don't know how they're going to act at distance and given a preference, I'd rather go with the softer shooting load.

Re: Sierra .308 155Grain Palma Hollow Point

All I hear about the 155s is their suitability at 600 yards, but has anyone pushed them beyond? Looking at the numbers they'd seem to be a superior option to the 175 SMK, but the 175 SMK is well proven to 1000 yards.

I'd like to get into the 155s but I want to push them at 750 - 1000 yards.

Re: Sierra .308 155Grain Palma Hollow Point

The Palma shooters that are restricted to bullets of 156 grains or less. Some shoot the 155.5 Bergers, some the 155 Scenars, and some the 155 Palma(2156). There may be others out there, but those are the three you hear the most about. Most drive them hard...2950 and above to make sure they are still supersonic at 1K. Most shoot long barrels to make sure they achieve the velocity required.
The 2156 is a very good bullet but, in my opinion, unless you are restricted to shooting bullets of a certain weight, there are better bullets suited to shooting 1K.

I would argue that the 2156 or 155 Scenar, pushed properly, are ideal for the .308 and tactical shooting. I run 155 Scenars at 2850 out of a suppressed 20 inch Rock. In the same barrel, I can get 178 Amaxes to 2625 until I start to see pressure. This is a '95 palma chamber. Run the numbers between the two, and you'll see a big difference in elevation adjustments, and a small advantage to the 155's in a full value wind.

I just took delivery of a large batch of the 2156's to compare to the 155 Scenar, and I'll be running 8208xbr to boost the velocity. At the end of the day, pick a bullet and load, and run the heck out of it. The 155's are ideal for me.

Re: Sierra .308 155Grain Palma Hollow Point

After running the average velocity numbers for each gr round through JBM, 155 and 175, the only thing the 175's have out to 1000 is energy. Paper punching, such as myself I'd be better off with the 155's. Run these things hard and it only get better.

Re: Sierra .308 155Grain Palma Hollow Point

The majority of the 2156s I shoot are at 8, 9 and 1000 yards as I shot a lot of LR and Palma. They work just fine but you do gotta get them going strong to stay supersonic as mentioned in the thread. With 30+ inch bbls we run on Palma rigs, its not that difficult to do. IMHO, I still think the old 2155 is just a tad more accurate than the 2156 but the 2156 has the better wind/BC. The current 1000 yard iron sight national record was shot using the 2155s. 200-17x, or 17 of them going into 1MOA, the other 3 just out but inside the 2 MOA 10 ring. I watched it get shot.
