SIG 556 - The Good The Bad And The Ugly

Re: SIG 556 - The Good The Bad And The Ugly

a boat anchor. It's a very reliable system, but unless you're planning on going beyond 100 yards, I'd get the sig 556 pistol and SBR it. Recoil is the same as the full sized to me. I've shot both and owned the rifle version. I'd like to go back to the platform but I'd never buy the rifle version again unless I was going to do some heavy modifications to it i.e. turn it into a 551.

I messed around with the actual sig 550 and what was funny was, despite its size, it was still way lighter than the 556 that sig sells. I think the sig 556 is something that SIG rushed out there very quickly.

I love mine. I have a classic folding version with swiss front hardware, Swiss Flash suppressor, Midwest Industry front flip up sight and a UHG Rear sight, forward grip and a Nikon Buckmaster 6-18x40. I just traded the folding lower for an early ar style with military size tube. I was shooting 1in grips for 5 shot grips at Bass Pro's range a couple weeks ago using 62grain ammo. Its crazy how much attention it gets and how many people notice it's not an AR. EVERYONE that shoots it just falls in love with it instantly. I've been shooting it at anywhere from 20yds to 200yds and it's a blast to shoot and kick isn't bad at all. My 9yr old even shoots it(as long as its on the bipod)

The one I "had" was sub par in the Accuracy department.
Not up to AR standards. (compairing to a piston AR there close)
I liked the trigger but the noisy re-set bugged me. My rear sight managed to loose a spring but not fall off.
Smooth shooting rifle . Low recoil. Just a Ok rifle in my book.
The cool new factor wore off quick with it.

I had one for a few months...
I got and went to zero the irons and the red dot that came with it.
to my dismay my groups were about a foot low after maxing out the elevation on both the irons and the red dot. the groups were tight at 100 yards but we simply could not get the rifle to zero. I sent the rifle to SIG and awaited its return. when it got back it shot great and everything was fine zeroed easy. (they said the barrel was mounted crooked) but then i sold it and bought a shotgun.

They aren't bad i love that the optic platform is slightly elivated in your sight-line as apposed to an ar-15. they are ok shooters i don't own one but my partner has one and i've put about 200 rounds through it. only got about 1.5moa at best but very reliable.

Re: SIG 556 - The Good The Bad And The Ugly

I have a SWAT model that I purchased new 2.5 years ago. I love my 556....it has never failed me. It just works ....plain and simple. I know of other folks that have had issues with SIG quality control and customer service but I personally have not. Agree with what other guys have said about the weight...definitely heavier than an AR but it doesn't bother me. Besides, I haven't been commissioned by my neighborhood watch to patrol the streets

so weight isn't really an issue for me. Here is a photo of mine (on a bipod for picture taking):
