So I just purchased a Sig 716 G2 patrol. I immediately changed the trigger to SSA-E trigger and installed AAC Blackout brake so I can use my 762-SD can with it. Today I took it to the range to test it out and compare it against my trusty POF 308 14.5” setup who has been a hammer.

I purchased 3 sets of ammo to try different variety:

1) Hornady Superperformance Match 175gr
2) Federal Gold March 7.62 NATO 175 GT
3) Federal Gold Match 308 Win 175gr

I used a CTK Precision ultimate gun rest/vise since this was to compare the two I wanted to remove all variables as much as possible. The same Viper PST 6-24x scope was used on both.

The Sig performed poorly. The best group I got was a little over 2” at 100yards with Federal Gold 308 win. The NATO version got worse and Hornady was close to a 3” group. I am just dumb founded on how bad it was.

The POF was a hammer as always. It did best with Federal Gold. Both 308 win and 7.62 NATO were identical in accuracy. All shots were sub-MOA with both. Hornady the group opened up to about 1.5”.

I did have the Magneto chrono and this is how they did. The 7.62 NATO version of Federal good is def loaded hotter cause with both guns it was faster by a good amount. The Hornady was the fastest but neither rifle liked this particular load. Here are the velocities :

POF 14.5”
Hornady Superperformnace Match
2496, 2499,2496

Federal gold match 7.62 NATO
2389,2411,2404

Federal Gold Match 308 win
2347, 2353, 2368

Sig 716 G2 16”

Hornady Super Match
2555, 2552, 2579

Federal gold 7.62 NATO
2494, 2480, 2489

Federal gold match 308 win
2408,2396, 2401

I have attached the target with the Federal Gold 7.62 NATO. I didn’t even bother taking pix of the Sig cause I was kind of sick to my stomach pissed. Do you guys suggest I contact Sig with this ?

Ditch the vice and come back with a 2nd report after you've got more time behind the rifle. Some gassers prefer a light, neutral touch and others need to be loaded/driven hard into a bipod.

You aren't the first person to have problems with Sig 716s, NH state police bough a buch last year and couldn'y get them to shoot, bad enough to warrant re-barreling. I'm not particually impressed with what I've seen come out of Sig in terms of gas-guns. Rumor has it that Green Mountain barrels are kinda hit or miss .

Doesn’t have anything to do with the OP’s rifle, but didn’t a version of the Sig G2 gun win the CANSOF contract? Can’t point to a link or source, maybe it was on P&S, but I thought there was a lot of positive feedback on that particular rifle.

I have a GEN 1 and when I run with a can the grouping are horrible, using 147 gr. I am going to try some 168 & 175's with and with out the can to see how shoots.

The can was not used during accuracy testing. I used it after to check function and to make sure it cycles properly with a can on which it did not lol

I had a gen 1 Sig716, using an AAC 762-SDN-6, my accuracy was what you mention at 1.5-2" with GMM because of the can wobble. Using a brake it worked great and accuracy was awesome. I used an o-ring with my can, the rifle shot the same accuracy when using a brake after installing the o-ring.

None of the accuracy testing was shot using the can. The picture was taken after the accuracy part of the day was already over.

Went to range on Friday , using 168 ELDS and Federals 168 match. Less then a 1/2 " at 100 yrd. then took it out to 1000 yards. I had to dail 39 mins to hit steel at a 1000. Going to try some 175 ELDS next time.
very happy

Hope India's purchase of 72,400 of them goes well.

Mine would only do 7-8 MOA with Winchester and Federal 7.62 x 52 ball
Switched to 168 grain match ammo and sub MOA groups were the norm, this was with a Vortex 6-24 scope and a SSA-E trigger.
My first two shots with the match ammo were touching at 100 yards.
