Gunsmithing SIG MCX Gen 1 / "Legacy" - which barrel spline tool do I need to remove the muzzle device?

I understand that the MCX may have different notches in the barrel extension than a standard AR-15, thus I'd appreciate any advice as to whether this item will work:

or if I need to get something different to remove the 3 tine muzzle device that is currently on my rifle.

Have you tried just putting it in an AR upper vise block and trying to take it off?

Don't I need to lock the barrel in place?

It all depends on if the muzzle device comes off with little effort. I've never used a reaction rod. I've used the magpul bev block and never had any issues.

Hence my question as to whether the MCX has different notches from a standard AR. I've seen mixed results here on the forums as to the level of difficulty in removing the muzzle device.

The hashtags say MCX Virtus which is the next generation of MCX from mine.

Guess I'll just get a regular spline rod and if it doesn't fit, it will for my regular ARs

Mine came off my MCX just holding the rifle on it's side, it was not on that tight. But mine also had a super low round count.

Yeah mine isn't coming off with moderate force so I'm going to get a reaction rod
