I have narrowed my next CCW gun to the Sig P238 or the Kahr P380. I really like the P238 but have read lots of topics where people are having problems with them. Maybe this has been resolved? I dunno... Also the Kahr is a little smaller and lighter which might be easier to carry.

I had a Glock 19 and hardly ever carried it. It was stolen so now I want something smaller that I might actually carry.

Most P238 issues where 1st and 2nd gen mags. I love the P238 if you are set on a 380, very accurate, easy to shoot, have real sights and great little pistol for the 1911 fans because the styling and controls are very similar. They are Sig versions of the original colt mustang.

00. I’ve had experience with both the Sig and the Kahr (no longer still own either). I found both the P238 and P380 less than ideal. For me, the smallest auto that balances compact size for carry and ergonomics for longer range sessions is the Kahr, in 9mm.

Should you be committed to a .380, I prefer the Kahr. I really just didn’t like the safety on the Sig and found it to be something that wasn’t easy to manage smoothly (I've run a 1911 a fair amount and still don’t like the Sig safety – I thought I would, but I didn’t). That said, I did prefer the Sig trigger. Both had some preference for ammo and wouldn’t run just anything.

I have and carry a P238. I previously had a Ruger LCP. The LCP was a shooter but a family member wanted it bad so I sold it. Wanted another pocket pistol and found the P238 to my liking. Wouldnt pay the retail price for it so I found a like new one for a great price. In the purchase the seller included 200 rounds of range ammo and 50 rounds of HP's. Ive shot the cheap range ammo and Hornady HP's thru it. The only difference between the ammo was the POI and slight recoil snap. Like RobStl commented, the safety is a "get use to" thing. I carry mine in my front pocket and the holster covers the safety. I carry cocked and locked and after some time feel comfortable with it. I would recommend the Sig but if you dont like the single action hammer and safety, buy the Kahr.

P238 would be my choice of the two, but did you look at S&W Bodyguard 380?
The price was lowered on them December 1st. It is DA only (no cocked hammer), has second strike ability, a safety, real sights and a built in laser. You should be able to find one for around $370 or so now.

My Kahr likes Winchester Super-X 380 Auto 85g HP (X380ASHP)

Thanks for the info... I like the P238 the best but was worried about the reviews online. Glad to hear that have them working better now.

Any recommendations on a front pocket holster for the P238?

Look on the Fist website for a pocket holster in either leather or the thin Kydex (my preference).

My Kahr 380 seems to shoot any loading. I've even tried limp wristing it to make it fail... no go. There was no break in period either. Unlike my old K9 which took 500 or so rounds before it was reliable, the little 380 worked right out of the box. The only issue I've had with it was when trying to reasemble the slide to the frame, there is a little tab on the rear of the frame that interferes with the rail... not sure if this is unique to mine, but it's annoying. It's one of those three handed operations to get the sucker back together. The Kahr mags could use a better dimple on the base plate as well... I've had a few come apart on me.

I shoot at the cherry ridge range in northern NJ...anyone wanting to try the k380 out...contact me via PM.

I have the Kahr P380 also. It was fine out of the box after about 200 rounds. I sent it off to Cylinder and Slide for their frame treatment and action work. Look them up online and see for yourself. I have no fear of reliability issues or accuracy. Highly recommend.

The Sig 238 is a handy weapon for certain instances. Personally I can carry a Officers 1911 or a commander size platform just as discretely as a 238 and have a lot more confidence in my choice. As for me these micro platforms are too small for preference.Fun to play with but NOT bet my life on!
