Someone please explain this phenomenon to me

I remember within the last few years, the Leupold Mk4 scopes of old were being offloaded left and right. Non matching reticle/turrets, old technology, new optics that had evolved light years ahead of it....etc. You used to be able to throw a rock over your shoulder and hit someone selling a Leupold Mk4 and the prices would just come down, and down and down.

For the last week, since I now require one of these shit scopes for a Mk12 Holland, I've been browsing a few sites trying to pick a specific model up; a fairly common model. I've realized 2 things:

- Vendors are still out there thinking a 3.5-10 Leupold is $1400. Apparently someone hasn't told them that the earth is round, we went to the moon and Reagan isn't President anymore (p.s., he died too).

- The plethora of used Mk4 3.5-10s have vanished, at least recently. It's like a cash for clunkers version of, 'we ll but your shit scope for a tax deduction' happened under God Emperor Trump that I wasn't made aware of. Is there a large pile of these somewhere, that I can just drive to and pick one out? I'm envisioning a road sign off the highway somewhere that says, World's Largest Pile of shitty scopes, 5 miles ahead on right! or something.

Should I go look in the 3$ DVD bin at Walmart and they might be in there? Is VJJ somehow secretly getting even with everyone and buying up all of those treasured Leupolds?

Back when I had to go to a gun range to shoot, I was always worried that I'd come back from changing targets to find my Nightforce scope have 'VJJ was here, bitch' scrawled on the side of it.

Maybe there are folks who have a different take on things? When a 60025 comes up for sale if it's reasonable I'll snatch it quick. Then it gets sent to Leupold for a 160 buck ret change, before I mount it on anything. M-3 is all I use any more,(save a 1/2IPHY USO) everything else is just fluff to me. I hope to have the first 6.5x20x50 m3 when Leupold get around to it.

I could care less about a few bucks for glass if I need it, wanting is different.

Looks like they can be had for ~$1000 on Amazon. I’m not sure if that is high, low, or in between for this scope.

This is not any sort of explanation, but is seems that I’m all ways “a day late and a dollar short” for any great deals that come along...

Its almost christmas, people have all but given up on selling used stuff. That train has grinded to a halt. After christmas people will start selling what they got and buying what they actually want. I bet a few little groups of MK4s will pop up. They still run around 700-800 bucks though. Pretty tough to swing when a Nightforce 2.5-10 can be found around the 1k, but if you got to have the MK4.

Considering a mk12 build myself, but already decided I am willing to sacrifice "clone correct" for quality and function, which quickly removed the MK4 from the list. Just because it was the choice back in the day doesn't mean it would (or is) the military's choice today.

Considering a mk12 build myself, but already decided I am willing to sacrifice "clone correct" for quality and function, which quickly removed the MK4 from the list. Just because it was the choice back in the day doesn't mean it would (or is) the military's choice today.

Get a Nightforce anyways. I have the correct 2.5-10x24 on my Mod1; this is for a Mod 'H' and while I wanted to try out some of the newer 34mm scopes like the Mk6 and Bushnell SMRS that have been seen on them, I already have the entire ARMS ring, cap, rail, Doctor setup so I basically either got the Leupold or didn't get to use any of that stuff.

By the way, how do they manage to make DVD's fucking smell funny? It's a DVD, the material on it is like impervious to everything, yet somehow they all fucked smelled weird.
