OK.

Here's the short and long of it.

Fun? Hells yes! Massive amounts of fun.

Downsides? It fucks up the rail system. I can't allow it to continue to fuck up my LWRC rail! Hells to the No! I need to buy a POS Colt 10.5 upper or something that's a rail system I don't mind fucking up.

The rail system simply can't handle the massive recoil of the shotgun shells..........
dscn0382a.jpg

Other downsides? The Shivek 9 shot beehive can't handle being milled down to 37mm............it was fired less than a dozen time and snapped / went flying out of the DD!

Upsides? The Shivek Shotgun adapter is built like a brick shithouse. It can handle , birdshot, 00 buck, slug etc.......

Pics:

Spike's Tactical Havoc...........I had it engrave along the indside rail so it wouldn't look so gay.

9-shot beehive..............you can watch it go flying out as it breaks.

Expenssive lesson learn! You can even hear silencertalk's "BrianBerto" cry out!

so basically that pic with the guys hand peeled back like an orange only applies to 37mm reloads, not the adapters........

If you decide to do it, I don't think you'll regreat it, but you might not want to mount it on your new SCAR.

So i'm taking my LWRC back to this look:

Why did you get it engraved at all...I didn't think 37mm fell into NFA.

Re: Spike's Tactical Havoc (Registered DD)

I have another low profile rail mounted to my quad rail that in turn the Havoc is mounted to..it takes the abuse and is expendable...I also drilled for more set screw locks (6)
but have not had the issues you have so far ..but have not shot any real "Hot" ammo ..

Re: Spike's Tactical Havoc (Registered DD)

Once he started using the 12 guage adapter it became a destructive device.
You are right, normally 37's are not because no rounds are made with more than 1/4 ounce of explosive payload.
Having turned down the 12 guage adapter he effectivlly made a DD.

Not real up to speed on DD's and NFA. Having a little trouble with the 12ga idea being a DD though. Is it due to the adapter being so short or something else?

Cheers,

Doc

This should clear it up. DD vs. SBS

Quote:

The definition of a "destructive device" is found in 26 U.S.C. § 5845(f). The definition reads as follows:

(1) any explosive, incendiary, or poison gas, (A) bomb, (B) grenade, (C) rocket having a propellant charge of more than 4 ounces, (D) missile having an explosive charge of more than 1/4 ounce, (E) mine or (F) similar device.

2) Any weapon by whatever name known which will, or which may be readily converted to, expel a projectile by the action of an explosive or other propellant, the barrel or barrels of which have a bore of more than one-half inch in diameter, except a shotgun or shotgun shell which the Secretary finds is generally recognized as particularly suitable for sporting purposes; and

3) Any combination of parts either designed or intended for use in converting any device into a destructive device as defined in subparagraphs (1) and (2) and from which a destructive device may be readily assembled.
The term destructive device shall not include any device which is neither designed nor redesigned for use as a weapon; any device, although originally designed for use as a weapon, which is redesigned for use as a signaling, pyrotechnic, line throwing, safety or similar device; surplus ordnance sold, loaned or given by the Secretary of the Army, pursuant to the provisions of section 4684(2), 4685, or 4686 of Title 10 of the United States Code; or any other device the Secretary finds is not likely to be used as a weapon, or is an antique or is a rifle which the owner intends to use solely for sporting purposes.[1]

(6) The term “short-barreled shotgun” means a shotgun having one or more barrels less than eighteen inches in length and any weapon made from a shotgun (whether by alteration, modification or otherwise) if such a weapon as modified has an overall length of less than twenty-six inches.

Re: Spike's Tactical Havoc (Registered DD)

The pic of "THE HAND" was because this guy hand loaded a round with a explosive payload, if I recall from Mongo's site.
The fuseing set up was painfully obviouslly, ill enginered.

Look on the bright side, less money in winter gloves. That is just freakin nasty.

My question, regarding your first picture, that does not appear to be rail friendly mechanism with the shotgun conversion. There is nowhere for the recoil to go. A 37mm doesn't recoil nearly as much as a shotgun shell, I would think the damage you sustained to the LWRC rail would happen to any rail system you use. A M203 attaches by clamp system that attaches to the barrel and inside the delta ring. Even the H&K version clamps directly to the barrel with the picatiny as a secondary secure point. Admittedly I don't have a lot of knowledge of the system you are using but it looks as though it is not really meant for the application.
