I recommend getting one sooner than later. You never know when some of these smaller companies will just stop manufacturing. I wish Ron or some official successor was making the AEM5/AE30 still. I wish I had picked one up when I had the chance.

Ron handed the AEM5 reigns off to an official successor a while back already.

I hadn't heard this. Thank heavens. While the OCM5 looks clone correct, it's not steel, and it sounds like it's a different baffle design. I'd rather have an AEM5 in the end.

If i can get my SLR rail moved I will order a PRI. Midway has a few in stock as well as PRI themselves. Top rail probably won't happen for a while down the road, but I don't plan on needing to bridge the handguard hopefully. Definitely not doing a clone correct mk12 so it doesn't matter much anyhow. I was hoping to find a used set up (Handguard and top rail) for a little less on the price side, but nobody seems to sell these lol

The OCM5 is a good choice if you can't find an AEM5. Otter creek makes some pretty solid stuff. I believe it is a Ti tube. Everything i have read states it may actually be a touch quieter than an AEM5, but i definitely get wanting to stay with the AEM5

My CA-legal Mock12 (ignore the grip fin). I love the way the EF-X A1 stock mimics the angles of the Delta forearm. I can't wait to see how this thing runs when I get the Ops Inc brake installed. Also, the TriggerTech 3.5 lb trigger feels like it was made for this gun.

Most recent build from last year.

Radian builder set with 14” rail
JP low mass internals
JP adjustable gas block
Timney Daniel Horner trigger breaking at 1 1/4lbs (first stage about half a pound, second about 1-1/4 as presently set)
Proof 16” 1-7 223 wylde barrel
Surefire muzzle break, occasionally a surefire socom mini2 (sometimes a surefire warden for other stuff)
Leupold Mark5HD 5-25
Ultradyne flip up irons that I forgot to take off

Used to almost exclusively use the ARGold trigger pack but have found the DH3 from timney to be better overall, a true glass rod with an almost nonexistent reset. Also a huge fan of the radian sets lest using the JP chassis system.

A bit of a creature of habit though and have a few builds in similar configurations. Maybe a bit of a problem, not too different from my 2011 addiction lol.

Although the radian sets are a bit beefy (upper compared to a a light weight recce build in second photo) so that must be kept in mind.

Seekins upper, handgaurd, adjustable gas block, and muzzle break.
CLE criterion 5.56 18in barrel. 7.7 twist
JP BCG and SCS
Aero lower with Trigger Tech adaptable trigger.
Vortex gen 2 viper 3-15 in a nightforce mount

I think I’ll end up swapping the PRS stock out for a Lite version.

Shoots great. A consistent .5-.7 Moa rifle for 5 shots with all match ammo I’ve tried… Hornady Black and Match, Nosler 70 RDF and 77 CC, and also IMI 77 Razor core.

556?

Not it's final configuration. I have a Vltor E-mod stock on the way, and there is a PRI round gen 2/3 in its future (unless i can find a RAS for the same price, which would be a miracle) (it also very well may get sprayed FDE instead of the striping). I am not decided on an 18" barrel yet, it depends on the accuracy from the 16.

Good looking rigs being posted. You know the only thing I would have done different on my 6 arc is I would have done a Superlative Arms piston kit to keep as much crap out of the receiver unfortunately they don’t offer it for the .875 diameter.
This guy in the dirty 6 ARC thread says a piston made no difference.
It's just an inherently dirty round, IMO.

I built two different 6mmARC rifles. Both shoot dirty as hell. So, I decided I'd convert one to piston rather than DI, figuring most of the carbon blowback was coming from the gas tube...wrong. Piston conversion rifle still runs dirty as can be. Yes, suppressed, of course.

I see a difference in my 556 with the piston kit and shooting suppressed compared to to my other 2 DI set ups

Yes, I see a difference with 5.56, too.

Not with 6ARC, though. It runs dirtier than the dirtiest steel case Russian ammo I've ever shot. Love the round, but it's ridiculous how dirty it runs...even in a piston setup.

Took a scoped carbine course with this at Ridgeline Defense last weekend. Was pretty blown away by how well the rifle ran. I usually shoot a heavier stainless barrel setup, but the KAC factory gun was plenty consistent. Shot from 3 yards out to 600.

I definitely just looked at this picture and went, that rifle looks familiar! Then realized @WillHugh posted it at the close we took haha.

Here is my Mk12 build. Waiting to switch the Mk5 3.6-18 TMR over to a Tremor3 in a Badger C1 Max 1.25” mount from the C1 1.54” on the gun. And need the OCM 5s to show up again.

PRI Factory Mk12 Upper with a swapped Douglas to a Bartlein 18” Barrel. PRI lower with the A1 cut and A2 stock. FP DBAL A2 in place of the PEQ2A.

My Mk12 built by PRI with a Leupy Mk5 w/tremor 3 reticle in an ADM one piece QD mount. Decided on the magpul bipod with QD mount over the Harris because I hated the Harris during my deployments and I routinely pull my bipod off to shoot over obstacles.

Noveske 18” SPR Barrel Accuracy Evaluation

noveske_SPR_011-1439090.jpg

Noveske’s 18” SPR barrel is a stainless-steel barrel that has a medium contour and a 0.750” diameter gas block journal. The gas block journal for this barrel is designed for Noveske’s low profile gas block and the journal is only one inch in length; standard length gas blocks will not work with this barrel. Fortunately, Noveske’s pinned and set-screwed low profile gas block is included with the barrel (as well as an intermediate length gas tube.)

noveske_spr_barrel_on_blud_background_02-1439093.jpg

noveske_stripped_18_inch_SPR_barrel_with-1439095.jpg

The Noveske SPR barrel employs an intermediate length gas system which eliminates the short-stroke issues that are sometimes encountered in cold weather with some 18” barrels that utilize a rifle length gas system. The barrel extension has “M4” feed-ramps. The barrel has a 1:7” twist rate and polygonal rifling (not a polygonal bore.)

noveske_polygonal_rifling_05-1439088.jpg

The chamber found in this barrel is Noveske’s proprietary Noveske Match mod 0 chamber that “was developed to fire MK262 Mod 1 on AUTO in hot environments." I installed the SPR barrel in a Colt M4 upper receiver and free-floated the barrel with a LaRue Tactical 12” handguard.

noveske_spr_with_bipod_and_scope_11-1439094.jpg

I conducted an accuracy (technically, precision) evaluation of the Noveske 18” SPR barrel from my bench-rest set-up following my usual protocol. This accuracy evaluation used statistically significant shot-group sizes and every single shot in a fired group was included in the measurements. There was absolutely no use of any group reduction techniques (e.g. fliers, target movement, Butterfly Shots).

The shooting set-up will be described in detail below. As many of the significant variables as was practicable were controlled for. Pictures of shot-groups are posted for documentation.

All shooting was conducted from a concrete bench-rest from a distance of 100 yards (confirmed with a laser rangefinder.) The free-float hand-guard of the rifle rested in a Sinclair Windage Benchrest, while the stock of the rifle rested in a Protektor bunny-ear rear bag. Sighting was accomplished via a Leupold VARI-X III set at 25X magnification and adjusted to be parallax-free at 100 yards. A mirage shade was attached to the objective-bell of the scope. Wind conditions on the shooting range were continuously monitored using a Wind Probe. The set-up was very similar to that pictured below.

benchrest_rig_9mm_002-1439087.jpg

wind_probe_2016_01_framed-1439099.jpg

For this evaluation, I used one of my standard match-grade hand-loads topped with Sierra 55 grain BlitzKings. When fired from my Krieger barreled AR-15s, this load has produced ½ MOA 10-shot groups at 100 yards.

005_match_krieger_with_55_blitzkings_and-1439085.jpg

Three, 10-shot groups were fired in a row from the Noveske SPR barrel from a distance of 100 yards with the resulting extreme spreads:

0.812”
0.732”
0.873”

for an average 10-shot group extreme spread of 0.81”. The three, 10-shot groups were over-layed on each other using RSI Shooting Lab to form a 30-shot composite group. The mean radius of the 30-shot composite group was 0.28”

The 30-shot composite group . . .

N.B. - - This barrel was purchased prior to the untimely death of John Noveske.

BCM MK12 Mod 4X. Bought it from BCM 5-6 years ago (I think). I’ve only put a few hundred rds through it. I’ve just now decided to focus on some longer range 5.56 shooting so I’ve ordered a Burris XTR III, B5 precision stock and Warne skyline bipod for it.

You’ll love the XTRIII. I have the 3-18 on my UIC-10A. Get the Burris throw lever off eBay for the cheap.

Changed up the glass and put a Badger Ordnance Harris bipod on it.
