I want to get a Remington 700 SPS Varmint in .308 to get into long range shooting. I was talking to a local gun shop owner who does competition shooting and he said that it would be hard for me to get to 1000 yards with that gun. Now, I've learned a lot from this forum so far and I know the gun is not perfect, especially the stock, but is it really not going to shoot well at 1000 yards? And I'm talking about just the rifle, not the skill of the shooter. I'm completely new right now, but I want the rifle to be capable of the yard mark for when I am capable of that yard mark. I'm not expecting miracles from the gun, I just was thinking that with a good stock it would be pretty accurate out to 1000 yards with a good scope and match ammo.
