finished building a budget 700P custom in a .338LM and got it dialed in and now im ready to step up to somethin a little more suited for long range.

been lookin into the Barrett 98 Bravo, Sako TRG 42, and Savage 110BA. just tryin to get an idea...deffinately stayin with a .338 lapua tho

keepin $ in mind, i would like to spend no more than $6k or so. give or take some..

just want a solid setup that is durable and will perform.

shoot me some ideas!

Re: steppin up from my 700P

I would go the route CrazyDonkey described.

It seems to be the most convenient one.

A Sako TRG is a fine rifle, but the recent pricing is not justified, IMHO. And also check availability.

Re: steppin up from my 700P

I just spent 1500 on a DM receiver and then bought a manners stock for 800 then a bart barrel and a badger ordnance bottom metal and a surefire break. I'm in it for 3810.25

I was quoted at $1000 - 1200 for gunsmith work for a total of 5010.25 plus my $300 paint job I want. That's without glass.

Once I add the glass I think I'm looking at about 8410.95

I don't think the word budget and 338LM go together very well. I just went for it.

This^^^

The rem 700 action is the most popular action. Just get it trued, upgrade and bed stock, and possibly have the barrel chamber adjusted for the trued action.

Re: steppin up from my 700P

Im not sayin mine isnt suitable for long range....i was just wantin to add somethin more tactical to my collection in another .338lm.

And when I say budget, I just mean some standard gunsmithing work, decent glass, etc....not a whole new stock, barrel,etc...more of a basic build. just minor stuff to optimize the "out of the box" potential.

I had originally thought about tearin into the 700 but im satisfied with the results the way it sits so I didnt wanna stray to far with it. Which is why I wanna add another setup to my collection.

Re: steppin up from my 700P

AICS CIP length $1100
Surgeon Action (no DBM) $1550
Barrel (Krieger Bartlein, etc.. ) $450
Shilen Tigger $100
muzzle brake $150
Gunsmith work $600

Right around $4k and have another $2k for glass.
