Hey all,
This is my first post and was looking for some advice. I am currently in the process of building my first target/varmint gun. I have a Stevens model 200 action, trued and timed by SSS
Douglas barrel 1/8 twist thats chambered in .243 win, 24 in long coming SSS competition trigger and recoil lug.
Gonna mount a Vortex PST 4-16x50 Ebr-1 moa reticle
Finally set it into a B&C medalist stock.
So my question is this...would this set up be enough to get me started shooting to about 600 or 700 yards are targets and groundhogs. I do not currently hand load but am saving up to get a rockchuck starter kit.

The reason for the 243 is that I used to own one years ago that i loved but got on the magnum bandwagon thinking it was better. Ive owned a .270, 30-06, 7 rem mag, 7-08, 7 STW and 300 win mag. Ive gotten rid of all these except the 30-06 ( grandpas gun) and the STW ( just to much damn fun) and want to go back to the flat shooting low recoil of 6mms.

Re: Stevens 243 for 600 yards

Thanks...the farthest Ive shot was about 700 yards but that was w the STW which is so much different. The longest shot with a .243 Ive made was like 385 so I am unsure about how harsh the wind is going to be on that little bullet out there after 500 haha

You, will more than likely be the limiting factor here, not the gun, not the round.
And that isn't meant to be an insult at all, please post up some pics of the rig and how she shoots when you get things squared away, sounds like a good setup.

haha I most def agree that The rifle will shoot better than me but had hopes of "growing into it". I will post them when possible might be awhile tho heard SSS tends to take their time
