First let me apologize for not weaving together a masterful string of words full of imagery that rolls of the tongue for a thread title . So I got hold of a 96 Cheyenne 2500 to replace my Nissan . 83,000 miles , 4x4 runs good . I have a few minor issues to fix one being that the drivers door is stuck shut . The interior door release handle flops freely so I'm thinking that the linkage from both handles is broken . Short of a cut off wheel or dremel to cut the interiot door panel off I'm looking for a fix .
I know that 2ndAmendfan and a few others here may have some expertise in this area so I figure it's worth a shot hear . On the plus side it is 2 degrees outside . What better weather to work on my ride ?

You need to talk to someone with a set of "Slim Jim" tools.
These are made to open locked/stuck doors.
Basically they slide down along the window and grab the linkage to release the door latch or lock.
A local garage/parts store would be the place to look.

Just rolling out of bed here. give me a minute. but you will need one of these I am sure. I change about 20 a year. very well known issue for chevy trucks.

Local store should at least stock the black one.

About 1:40 into the video he pulls the trim ring off around the door handle. Normally they break on the inside, not with the handle falling of in your hand. Take the trim ring off, at that point everything inside the trim ring is sacrificial. break the handle apart until you can pull on the release rod and open the door. at that point you can remove the door panel and finish.

a hole saw wouldn't be a bad idea.

Try pulling the cover and inside door handle. It should be held on with two screws. Yours may also need the arm rest removed.
Once you get that removed, the inside handle is connected to a pull rod. Even if it's broken, you might be able to pull on the rod with pliers enough to get the latch to release.
Most of the pull rods are held in place with plastic clips. If in doubt about their serviceability replace them.

While everything is apart, you will probably want to check and maybe replace the hinge bushings and the door striker.
Also look for wear on the upper striker plate where the striker makes contact.
Everything needs a bit of lube while you are at it including the window crank gears and pins.
Keep the door panel off until you get everything working correctly...

I have a fiber optic camera in work that I'm gonna give a try . Can't shoot I mean can't fix what I can't see . Thanks for the responses . I have a few options to pursue . Right now trying to prioritize wether I work on the truck or a reloading bench .

Come on man. Not during the Family Hour.

The handles are a very common thing on these to break. I have replaced more of these handles than you can imagine. Most of the time like said pull of the trim ring and see if you can get to the rod easily. I would also recommend while you have it apart replacing the door latch. The broken inside handle is a sign of the latch going bad or the hinge pin starting to wear to much. Or possibly both. On a friends truck I replaced the handle 5 times until I finally talked him into buying the latch. He has not had a problem since. Also pick up on the back of the door to see if there is an play in the pins and if they are worn replace them also. That handle will keep breaking. My Parts guy at the chevy dealer knows the handle part number by heart no matter what color the interior is. I forgot how many interior handles on these he sells in a year. But it was way more than I would have ever believed.

Sorry, Jerry... Was trying to click quote when I hit dislike... I meant to hit like then quote.

In defense of people who took 'Girly' classes... I got more pooter out of typing class than any other HS class in the history of time. And all those hours in IBM Selectrics... certainly paid off in this keyboard era.

    As for Home Ec... meh.

But typing class... that was where to pick up the chicks in 10th grade!

    Cheers,

    Sirhr

man o man how some have to debase themselves for some pooty tang

And you are expecting me to feel bad about that? I not only learned to type 200 WPM... but I got me some pooter back when I was 16.

Damn, man, I'd have taken Macrame and Tye-Dye classes if they had gotten me closer to some back-of-Jeep-Cherokee Paradise-by-the-dashboard-light action c. 1982!

    Cheers ,

    Sirhr

I seen Meatloaf in 83 at Zeppelinfeld Nuremberg, Monsters of Rock, he and that girl belted out that song unbelievable showman and singer, , had two german chicks body paint only, chained together at the neck with spiked dog collars and chain. What a fuking weekend. As the hide can tell I never took the typing class, I joined Army at 17 and went to Germany to fuk german pussy of all types, freaky chicks there in the early mid 80's.

For the record... Nena is still pretty hot! Look her up! And if I had life to do over again... I'd have headed for Berchtesgaden at 22 and not left until I brought myself home a little Master-Race blondie... because, damn.... those grand-daughters of SS Colonels are pretty smoking hot!

Ha!!! Not all youngsters are ignorant to the top classics of all time.
I was born in 80 and tried my damndest to get the prom theme to be "Paradise by the Dashboard Lights" when I was 17. I was dating a Swedish foreign exchange student who was 2" taller than me and oh so hot. And the accent. Oh dang.

Might have to take the seat out to get the door panel off. Once you get the door open you can get at the outside door handle. Its a PIA compared to the inside one. Lube every pivot point in there very well. The door will open like new, and the replacement door handles will last longer.

Don't say that too loudly. You might get a new admirer.

This one is from 2016, skip the first 40 seconds to get past the talking frogs.

Not as cute as she was back in '82, then again neither am I. You got me by about a year Sirh. Still wouldn't kick her out for eating crackers.
