Lookin for help trying to figure out how in the world to load 338 lapua magnum subsonic. I know about all the empty space in the case and to try trail boss powder. But has anyone been brave enough to try it? And what were your results?

I've seen subs for sale before and always wondered why. 300 blk among others I can see. Just don't understand a long range cartridge like 408, 375, 338, ect being loaded for subsonic.

It's just an experiment. Obviously my ballistics are gonna be whacked out so 1000 yard shots might be a little difficult. But it'd be cool to shoot a 338 and it sounds like a red rider.

You've got me. Corbon has a 338LM subsonic load:

UPC Code: 757750033832
Manufacturer: CorBon
Model: Subsonic
Model: Performance Match
Caliber: 338 Lapua

Grain Weight: 300Gr
Type: HPBT
Units per Box: 20
Units per Case: 100
Manufacturer Part #: PM338S300

What's the point? I guess the ability to deliver a heavier payload, and thus marginally better ballistics in the 300-500 yard envelope for subsonics. If you want quiet, and don't need distance, why not?

Yeah. I think, to hell with it. A nice fat suppressor will do enough to quiet the muzzle down. I guess there's not much I can do without sacrificing range, power, and accuracy at 1000m, which is the whole point in spending that kinda money on a rifle. Whatever.

There are a lot better choices for subs, and your right, why spend the money on a 338LM and shoot subs through it. Yep, looking forward to getting the 338BA for my 98B. On form 3 since Apr so hopefully before this year is over.
