Subsonic load for Remington R-25 .308 with 208AMAX

Re: Subsonic load for Remington R-25 .308 with 208AMAX

I have made subsonic rounds using a small Lee handloader!
I simply made a selection of rounds with varying amounts of powder until it became subsonic. I could not tell you the Ballistics of what I have achieved but Im using Remington core lokt projectiles on random brass and it works perfectly.
It's been very easy to achieve bulls eye shots at 150m from an SPS Tactical with a suppressor! I have trimmed The powder cup in the lee loading kit by 7mm and this has been the perfect amount of powder for subsonic rounds.
The powder im using is AP50N.

Id do it just like any other sub 308. Its not going to cycle unless you change some things.

Id use trail boss. Dunno what your twist is off the top of my head. Make sure whatever you use is stable before you put a suppressor or anything on.

Re: Subsonic load for Remington R-25 .308 with 208AMAX

I used data I've seen a few times here on the hide for my first subsonic loads and shot them today. The other posts used 180gr RN, but I used 180gr Hornady SSTs for maximum damage. Loaded them in winchester brass with 10.5gr of Trail Boss using an analog scale, so I'm sure it wasn't perfect. I was able to chrono 2 rounds. First round was 1060fps and the next was 1195fps, so I think I'm onto something. Fired from a Remington 700 action with an AAC 18" barrel with 1:8. Shot 12" low and 2" right. I think I might need a digital scale to produce larger amounts of these with better consistency. I'm certainly open to thoughts and suggestions.

Definatley get a digital scale. You should stick with the 180rn projectiles or 220's. They are more stable than the SST's because their weight is balanced further forward. I run 12.2gns of trail boss with Sierra 220gn RN out of LC brass and get a consistent 1036fps with about any old primer. Note, I am running a 1/10" bbl.
