I was in Gander Mountain a couple of weeks ago and looking at the reloading shelf when I came across the Combined Tech 168 GR Silver Tips. I had seen them before but I never gave them all that much attention. So, I opened the box and it is a black Bullet with a silver tip - cool bullet. And, since it was on sale I went ahead and got them. Since the bullets were black I decided to give them the cool look so I would get some nickel plated 308 cases, Remington – got them on sale at Midway (I was on a roll and I could tell my wife – see I got them on sale). I took out my hunting rifle: RW Snyder Gunsmithing rifle I got from a Hide Member a year ago,AICS 2.0 stock, Rock 1-10 twist m40 contour 19.5"...I normally shoot 168 AMAX in the rifle so the POI was off to the left a tad.

As I said, from my normal load it was about 2 MOA left so I moved the scope right...second shot hit in the 9 on the right side and so I brought it left two clicks and hit the center. I then shot a seven shot string with one ragged hole. The string was shot in the prone, Harris bi-pod front and mono-pod in the rear.

    The reloading data is:
    43.5 Grains Winchester 748
    Combined Tech 168 Gr
    2.8 COAL.

I was very surprised to say the least that I can get my hunting load dialed in so quickly - that never happens for me. I do like this bullet. I am taking it out again today to shoot 200 and 350 yards. We shall see what it does with that.
Here the rifle: I got it from Forwardeyes

The 168 CT bullet works in a factory loading ( Winchester Supreme black box black bullet, nickel case) to 1000 yards rather nicely.
It's just that those CT bullets are way over priced for their performance.

I agree with not using it as a daily range round as that would be too expensive but as a hunting bullet they will work well I hope. They are cheaper than Barnes TTSX by 18 bucks a box - $20.49 vice $38 a box, unless you can get them on sale for $33.
