My wife has decided she wants to varmint hunt with me in the spring, and I am thinkin about using an AR style upper with a bull barrell for her. I have a M&P15, and am not sure which upper to go with. Also, would I be better to go with a 22-250 or a 222 swift cal, and can I find an uppper that is compatible. I am in the dark on this subject, and would like to know. I could sure use some help on this yall. Any varmint hunters out here got suggestions/ideas/advice to share. Thanks in advance.

The 22-250 and 220 swift are too large to fit in a standard AR upper. Your best bet would be to stick with a .223. Used varmint uppers aren't that hard to find if you look in the classifieds on various forum boards. If you have a flat top upper and can mount a scope on your S&W you'll likely be already to go. You might be able to find a used bolt gun in a varmint caliber this time of year for the price of an AR upper. Now you have a perfect excuse to buy a new rifle!!!!

The 204 Ruger uppers drop in and feed from standard GI mags. The 20 cal shoots very close to the 22-250 and actually hits harder past 400y with it.

They eat barrels about the same rate as a 22-250 too. My bolt gun in 204 Ruger is very accurate, 22" barrel gets 40gr handloads to 3700 fps.
