I have a spring xd45 I'm thinking about suppresing. Dose anyone have a recomendation for a threaded barrel? I have heard alot of negative stuff about lone wolf barrels, just knee some advise.

Thanks,
Sean

Re: Suppresing a spring xd

I know several people who are running the PistolGear XD-45 threaded barrels with great results. See here:

They say 2-3wks wait time, but plan on a month or so unless they happen to have your barrel and thread pattern in stock.

Also, Bar-sto makes threaded XD-45 barrels. They aren't cheap and the wait time can get a little out of hand...but they are very nice barrels.

Re: Suppresing a spring xd

Ok cool thanks, also what would be the top 3 or so best suppresors for the xd45? I am very new to suppressing weapons but I know all the legal parts of it just not the performance parts. I am willing to spend a pretty penny on a suppresor, but don't really know what I'm looking at. Thanks for correcting my ignorance...

Re: Suppresing a spring xd

Look for Storm Lake barrels. Pretty sure those Pistol Gear ones are made by Storm Lake. They are very good.

Suppressors aren't gun-specific. The top .45 cans right now are the AAC Ti-Rant and the SilencerCo Osprey. I would say the SWR HEMS 2 or AAC Evolution would be my choices after the top two.

Re: Suppresing a spring xd

Ok thanks, and if the all the threads match could I use it on a 9mm and it be worth it, or is it just a waste of time? As of now I only really shoot the .45 but my girlfriend likes my 9 mm and I was thinking about trying to be cheap and bot buy 2 cans yet.

Re: Suppresing a spring xd

you can shoot 9mm through a 45 can, as long as the thread pattersn match obviously, you wont get teh same level of suppression that you would from a 9mm can but to me its worth it to not buy 2 cans, then later on you can always get one. im not sure how the threading works with the barrel diameter size from 9mm to .45

Re: Suppresing a spring xd

They will all be threaded 1/2"x 28 so it should work, but how loud will the .45 be? Like a loud handclap or will you only hear the slide cycle? Also how loud would the 9mm be through a .45 can? Is there anything that anyone can relate the sound of them too? I have never shot suppresed weapons before, but can't wait to get started

Re: Suppresing a spring xd

depending on what can your looking at, .45 cans arent the quietest by any means, unless your shooting a .22 with subs then its never just the slide cycle, but still earsafe and thats the advantage, and still a blast to shoot. not sure how the sound will be from a 9mm in a .45 can but it should still be pretty quiet, look on youtube and you can get a feel for it. most cans shot wet are quieter. you wont be dissapointed

Re: Suppresing a spring xd

I tried looking at YouTube for some of the videos, but some sound really quiet and some sound like they just take the edge off the bang. How quiet is the 9mm with the propper can? I got a G17 that would look good with a can on it, but again I'm not sure how much quieter it would really be.

Re: Suppresing a spring xd

hard to say, how quiet are you looking for. if its something from a movie your barking up the wrong tree. they are quiet but not what society is used to them being protrayed as. but like i said once you shoot one suppressed youll be hooked, there are many advantages it takes off most of the muzzle report but you still get some noise from a pistol round at around 1000, some of the 9mm ammo is supersonic so you get the tearing through the air sound.

Re: Suppresing a spring xd

Ok, well I know enough that Hollywood is full of crap and nothing is that quiet. But I'm just curious as to how much quieter it will really be. I'm not expecting to just hear click click click, but I would love to see or shoot one before I spent the money.

Storm Lake makes OUTSTANDING extended/threaded barrels for the XD (and will soon have XDM barrels available).

Your best bet on a .45 can is either the Silencerco Osprey or the AAC Ti-Rant 45.

You can't thread a .45 with 1/2-28 threads, and most .45 cans don't have 1/2-28 pistons available for that reason. If you want to shoot 9mm through a .45 can, you'll either need to have a 9mm barrel with non-standard threads to match a .45 can, or you'll need a 1/2-28 to .578-28 adapter.

Re: Suppresing a spring xd

Thanks for the info, I am still trying to learn all the details such as that about them. I know some about suppressors but there's still alot out there to learn.
