Hey all. I've been looking for this info and can't seem to find it anywhere.

Is the dbm and magazine that comes with the Surgeon 1581 XL CIP length? Figure that at least one of you out there have this setup so I would appreciate your feedback. Receiver is on the way, and I will be ordering the bottom metal this week (didn't want to pay CA taxes on the whole package). Thanks in advance for your input.

Yes, when I had ordered it many years ago it was CIP length.
IIRC, surgeon used to package their “Xl” bottom metal with the 1581 action. That doesn’t appear to be the case anymore. But the Xl is the one you want and not the LA.

Thanks for the info. Definitely looking for the CIP length, so good to know. I think they normally do sell it as a set, but they have been great in allowing me to purchase them separately as I have to pay taxes on anything shipped to my FFL (can't wait to get out f California). Should save enough on the deal to buy like 3 or 4 rounds of 338LM.

    Hey Terry,

I wasn't sure if the 1581 can accept other CIP length bottom metal. Are they capable of taking other dbm's?

If so, I like Hawkins Precision stuff quite a bit and they do make a CIP dbm. Badger is another option if filament is not an issues. I also like the APA dbm and have that setup on two rifles, but it doesn't look like they make a CIP. If you have any suggestions as well I am all ears. Thanks.

As far as I am aware, Surgeon and KMW are the only ones making DBM bottoms for the 1581 XL.

The stock bolt geometry in relation to the trigger and mag position is completely different than anything else on the market. It is not at all compatible with any other action that I am aware of.

Someone else is welcome to chime in on this if I am in error.
    Be safe.
