Being able to run AW mags to allow an OAL of 2.980" or so has got me thinking of fitting up the 6.5X55 swede or a straight up .284 winny on my Badger action for a little advantage over the 6.5X47 and .260 rifles.

I've seen others do it on Remmy or clone short actions but the use of the AW mag on the Badger would be of some advantage, so why not use it. I've got plenty of Swede goodies around, thousands of 142 SMK's, brass, dies and a reamer set up well for the combo. If I go for the .284 that means I have to buy everything. Damn, the dilemma.

I thought the 284 win wouldn't work in an AW double stack mag.Was I unintentionally lying to people?

I know my next build will be 7mm but I have to buy all new dies and components.I was thinking 708AI.

Only problem I have with the Swedish is that it is not compatible with standard .473" boltface.

.284 winchester might need a magnum size magazine, of course, there goes your short-action receiver... Probably just need to work on the magazine lips for the .027" wider case body.

Go .284 and you get all the benefits of AI, without having to buy higher-priced die sets; plus, the extra case capacity.
