Just picked up a savage axis precision in 270 winchester. I plan to rebarrel it to 6.5x55 swede. Using the long action so I can load longer bullets. In an old thread this was discussed but nobody ever mentions COL or preferred bullets or powders. Any help would be appreciated.

The swede has always been a “long” action cartridge. Tons of data on the cartridge with lots of bullets using quality brass. It does have a bastard case head size, which many bolts will accommodate. So as long as your bolt/extractor will accommodate the head diameter, you’ll be fine.

It has more case capacity than the Creedmoor, so in a long action it should be able to do more
Thanks. I could be wrong but I believe the Swede can do anything the creedmoor can do.
Loaded to the same pressures, the swede will stomp the shit out of a creedmoor and .260 for that matter. Remember when you’re looking at swede load data it’s 45k max psi as a safety measure for antique firearms. In your savage it can be loaded as hot as anything else.
