Hey,
I just got my SWFA SS 10x today and when I looked through it there were three random dots, about the same size as the mildots, inside the glass (hoping it was just dust I wiped the lens with the provided cloth but to no avail), hanging just up and left of crosshairs. I called SWFA and they are having me return it for another one. I'm not really angry but it would have taken a simple sight check to catch this problem. Now I have to wait another week or two before my build is complete. I thought SWFA had a pretty good reputation. Was I wrong and should I be worried? Anybody else have something like this happen to them?
Thanks.

Re: SWFA SS 10x Defective

Honestly do you expect them to open and look through every single scope they sell? They probably ship hundreds of scopes every day, the amount of time that would take would be staggering.

I have been dealing with SWFA for many years, they will take care of you as quick as they can and bend over backwards to make you happy.

As was posted before even expensive optics have problems. I bought a $2400 pair of Leica binos and one of the internal lenses was chipped. Had to send it back to Leica to have parts replaced. Stuff happens, it sucks but thats why we by from good companies.

Re: SWFA SS 10x Defective

+++++ for swfa

I was initialy leary of their scopes, finaly bought one,now have several. So far no issues, but I'm not sweating it if I do get one with problems. The few instances that I have heard from people personaly, their customers service is with out equal.
I could mentioned a couple higher priced companies, that I can no longer say the same for ( If I did say anything I would be accused of venting, if not leaning toward slander ).

Re: SWFA SS 10x Defective

To answer your question - not the same problem you mention but you can put me on the list of folks that have dealt with SWFA and have come away unimpressed.

I do expect such Quality Control. It would be a shame to let the customer be the QC guy.

Re: SWFA SS 10x Defective

^ You would expect it but there is human error, and it even happens to custom scopes that at 2K and above. Also like stated above me SWFA will take care of you. I have personally had that experience with them.

I wouldn't expect SWFA to do the QC but certainly the manufacturing plant should at the time they are doing final inspection on the scope. But then again, stuff happens during shipping so inspection at the factory might not catch everything.

FWIW, I also had a speck in my 10x42, sent it back and SWFA replaced it.

Re: SWFA SS 10x Defective

SWFA customer service was very polite and responsive. They seem "eager to please" which I am thankful for. I understand that SWFA is very, very busy but I still think that quality should be the number one priority. I am hoping that it was dust inside the glass knocked loose during shipping as I would like to believe that SWFA is a high quality company otherwise I would never have bought from them in the first place.

Re: SWFA SS 10x Defective

SWFA will take care of you!

This issue can happen with any optical manufacturer. I bought a $2600 camera lens & guess what it had a small hair inside of it. Was i upset after spending this much money with a top notch company, yes. It was repaired under warranty. Oh well crap happens is what you need to tell yourself & wait until they send you a new one.

FYI: I have 2 of their HD scopes w/o any isues; 5-20 ill & 10X
I had an old antique 16x that had some small issues (probably the first ones they made), they took care of it no questions asked except for my return address.

Re: SWFA SS 10x Defective

Just got my replacement scope today and it is flawless. While this whole experience was a pain in the ass, SWFA did take very good care of me and were quick to fix their mistakes. SWFA is good to go in my book.

+1. Hell yes they should look through them! It's their name on the damn thing

Re: SWFA SS 10x Defective

They do go through QC. Most likely the debris was not visible at the time of inspection.

This is a relatively common issue with scopes that have a glass reticle because it creates a spot for debris to stick that is in a focal plane.
