Fellow Hiders' -

I stopped by the Tac Ops shop last night to pick something up, and while I was there I spotted some beautiful engraved floorplates. Mike said it was cool if a snapped a few photos so I seized the opportunity.

It still blows my mind that all Tac Ops engraving is done the old-fashioned way - with a hammer & chisel. That is true engraving artistry.

NOTE: It was after dark and no natural light was available, so I had to use the flash. Also, trying to minimize flash bloom in the engraving I had to shoot at an oblique angle, which also muddled some of the detailing, but you get the idea - these floorplates are baddass!

While no photos can ever do Tac Ops artistry justice, flash photos never look as good as photos shot in natural light. I did the best I could with the built-in flash:

Very cool....cool that you would think of us to snap some pics, and cool of Mike to let ya. I want to just "stop" by Tac Ops and hang out someday, too bad it won't ever happen! We'll take all the pics you can give us from his shop, just make sure you have a camera when your in the area.

No problem on the photos Kelly - I just appreciate and love fine craftmanship, and Tac Ops rifles are definitely in that category. Engraving done with hand tools is an Old World lost art, and there aren't many people with the skills necessary to execute the level of detail seen on these floorplates, especially within the limited space of a floorplate.

I usually have my camera with me, and my travels for work sometimes take me pretty close to the Tac Ops office and shop at times, but I can't just stop in whenever I want as that would break the flow of work unnecessarily. I'll keep the photos coming as feasible.

Being that Tac Ops weapons and accessories are artwork onto themselves, adding additional customization through engraving artwork isn't over-the-top, and many have done so. It shows the pride of ownership and usage by the individuals and departments that own and / or shoot them.

I wouldn't post agency, department, or an individual names without written consent, but a handful of the floorplates Tac Ops has engraved are on the Tac Ops web site and are publicly viewable. Some rifles are privately-owned while others are agency or department-owned.

For more eye candy check-out the Tac Ops Engraving Services page on the Tac Ops web site.

George, I have indeed seen the new Tac Ops bottom metal before, but in-the-white. I know that the new Tac Ops floorplate assembly is close and that customers' who have specified the TO floorplate and whos rifles are close to completion will be receiving it. A friend's X-Ray 51 should be going to Birdsong pretty soon.

But it was the "Psycho" and "The Pain Killer" engraving on the completed rifles, along with the "Punisher" skull that caught my eye, and those happened to be on Williams bottom metal.

If happen to see some finished Tac Ops floorplate assemblies next time I'm down at Tac Ops I'll try to get some photos of them, whether engraved or not.

Wow that is all I can say! I know I love mine. They look amazing and knowing they are all done old school by hand is even more incredible!

I want a collection to hang on the wall as art forget about putting them on the rifle

One's own personalized, custom-made, sub-1/4MOA guaranteed, lifetime warranty rifle.

Does it, can it, get better? I've had the chance to shoot both a suppressed Tango and an X-Ray. Perfect rifles really.
