Hello I'm new here so I thought I'd share my latest project in hopes of getting some good feedback and the answers to a few questions from you guys, feel free to share your thoughts. I just recently purchased the action and I wanted to make sure I did all my homework before buying anything else.

ACTION: TAC-338 from Stiller Precision
BARREL: Krieger 27" 1:10 Twist
STOCK: McMillan A-5

I wanted to have a detachable box magazine I was leaning towards Badger ordnance's M5. They said it required inletting(not really sure what that means?)

There is the question of the muzzle brake. I'm not sure which one to go with because I know very little about them.

Then there is the question about the barrel contour. I wanted to have a heavy barrel contour with a straight taper. Not too familiar with krieger's barrel chart. I do know I will mostly be shooting prone from 800-1500 yards and I'm not going backpacking in the woods with this thing.

Next question, I was wondering if you pillar bed do you also glass bed? Is there a benefit to doing both over one.

last question, Stiller supplied me with a .301" lug. My smith recommended getting a tubs recoil lug .369". Is there really that much of a difference in the thickness?

For the muzzle brake, one thing to think of is if you are going to use a quick detach suppressor for it. If so, look at which suppressor you might get, and get a muzzle brake that is compatible.

Tubb may not offer the correct od and the id will also be too small. The stiller 338 has .050 larger od and larger barrel shank. The receiver may also be slightly longer. Make sure your smith is aware as these dimensions will require extra time And fitting. You mAy also want to use a barrel with a larger shank so that you will have enough shoulder. Hope this helps.

I originally purchased the receiver from Southern Precision. I was going to have my guy here do the barrel work but I really like the customer service offered by SP. I'm trying to do some homework so i don't fudge it up.
Thanks for the input

I am building pretty much the same rifle, it's being done as we speak over at accurate ordnance.iam using a #10 heavy bull barrel at 28 inches,1:10 twist with a tac 338 action.think Iam going to try the new timney elite trigger , Iam tired of chasing down jewel triggers.ial be using a clamp on brake so it can be removed if it's to much for what ever range i shoot.leupold glass and 300 gr. bullets.
