If you havn't seen this movie you need to. If you are uncomfortable with crying I suggest you watch it by yourself first. One of the best movies I've ever seen.

HBO runs it periodically, it is also available at Costco for 12.98. For those that haven't seen it, Kevin Bacon plays an officer who has a desk job running reports of allocation of troops; he volunteered to escort the body of a fallen soldier that he thought was from his hometown from Dover to its final resting place (which turns out isn't his hometown). There really isn't a "plot" per se - more a documentary-style format. Some scenes are really touching, like the respect expressed by the person that cleaned the body, Kevin Beacon sleeping in the hangar to stay with the remains, getting harassed by TSA for carrying "personal affects", and the citizens lining the street as the hearse goes by (like the recent video posted last week here). Good movie to watch on Memorial or Veteran's day.

I just watched this at OCS. It was unreal how this movie touched me. It gave me even more respect for what I am taking on. If you haven't seen the movie-DO IT!!! The way it was filmed the performance by Kevin BAcon-overall spectacular.

Amen... This movie discussion comes up every now and then on the hide, think I've even mentioned it before, but it should be that way. It is great, and if one is not very familiar with the deceased soldiers trip home, it is an eye opener.. Loved it, and my allergies musta kicked up to while I was watchin it, don't know what that was about.

It very much is a true story. I know the guy who told the story and then wrote the story and then I watched the story. I wept each time, like a baby boy.

I had the honor of meeting Lt. Col. Strobl USMC (ret.) at a conference on Wednesday. In addition, I was able to visit with several of representatives from Dover Air Force Mortuary Affairs Operations Center. I am without words to describe their undertaking. God Bless and thank you for your service.

One of the finest movies ever filmed however, my wife no longer lets me watch it when she is home. I still cannot get my brother to watch it. Like Sean said watch it by yourself if you don't want anyone to see you cry it is unavoidable!

Thought I'd bring this back up, saw this movie for the first time today on Memorial Day with my whole Family. Great Movie and well done, as mentioned earlier it is hard to watch without crying. I can only hope that people pay as much respect and attention as portrayed in this movie, it fills me with hope for our Nation. No better way to remember the fallen than great films like this.

My high school senior english teacher showed us this movie. Her name is Linda Wheeler and was a Marine herself (she claimed she led some groups into the gas chamber without a mask on...and I believe it). However, crying is in fact inevitable, and unavoidable if you watch this film.
