Movie Theater "The Soviet Role in World War II - Antony Beevor"

Projecting power across the Open Ocean and is something completely different. In that theater, against Japanese navy is what I was getting at. This is not comparable to the defense of land locked Stalingrad.

This is the context I was referring to.
Look at the map before you make assumptions. Like said Soviets would not need much in terms of naval power projection nor would they need long-range bombers or fighters.

Sakhalin is separated from Hokaido by 25mile strait , Russian Kuril islands are even closer, when they retook Sakhalin and Kuril islands they had fighters in the air over both (most were P63 Kingcobras). If it came to it , it wouldn't happen in a vacuum but with a WW2 continuing. Although the distance is similar to one between France and Britain , you would not be looking at the oriental reenactment of the Battle of Britain, with Japan running on fumes and Soviets at peak of their power
