Thinking about getting the parts together for a 300 Norma build, assuming I don't find a nice 338 lapua AI. I would like the action to have a firing pin blocking 3 position safety. Apart from, hs precision a d Montana ..are there any other custom actions which have a 3 position safety? Other option would be to scavenge a winchester model 70 action, but I rather leave that rifle alone. Comments and suggestions are very welcome.

Dakota M76 does. -Your FICO score will enjoy that one though, $2500+ sheckels.

If they will sell you one, you could go Dakota "Scimitar" action. It too has a 3p safety. These are pretty much unheard of in the mainstream. It's a leftover from a 2004 project with the Jordanian Military. I built a couple hundred of these things. If you were to pursue this you'd want to talk to Garret C. at Dakota. He's a solid shit who'll get stuff done.

What I would encourage you to do is avoid these "retro kit 3p's" that folks are selling for M700's. Thus far the ones I've seen aren't very good.

An M70 classic would be a great way to do this, just one thing. The Norma case is .585" bolt face if I'm not mistaken. M70's are not. They can be increased to that but I caution it as it could very well be reaching the limit of what the action will safely tolerate. It'd take a fair amount of work on the feed lips as well. Easy enough to do, just not sure about the pressure. The Norma is not a trivial cartridge.

The Dakota actions are bar stock machined and I know they'll run 338LM all day along with a bunch of other "boomer" type cartridges.

Good luck.

Thanks. I always enjoy reading your input. By the way that work you did where you machined a matching bed out of metal for an action was fantastic....wish I had links to that's.
i think my primary option would be an older AI in 338. I don't really want totake any metal off a win 70 action for the reasons you mentioned.
Are the montana actions good? The professionals hunter action has the larger bolt face needed and the prices seem reasonable.
