Seems a bit excessive.. Are you running them at the limit on speed and pressure? I'm no where near an expert just curious if your pushing it. Regardless 900 rounds seems to be not that many.

142 SMK @ 2900 and yes the gun gets on the hot side sometimes during practice and matches. I was hoping someone with some knowledge would say either "your ok just shoot it" or "make it fence post" or "cut a thread off and set it back and go with it"

You are certainly the best judge of weather the barrel is still up to your standards or not.If your happy with the accuracy the barrel is providing "your ok just shoot it". If your not and do not want to go to the expense and time of cutting a new throat "make it fence post". If you think the barrel still has some life in it " cut a thread off and set it back and go with it"

Let us know how effective that was. I would be interested to know how well that would work for improving barrel life. You could cut several threads off over time and if it was significant in helping the barrel you could really drag the life out.

Accuracy was still there at 912 rounds, but the velocity had dropped off about 50 fps. Since the re-chamber everything is back to normal 142 smk @ 2936 fps (48.2 gr. of H4831 SC, 2.850 oal) shooting almost a ragged hole @ 100.

A little over a year ago I had four threads cut off due to .040 throat erosion at 1100 rounds. But after another 200 rounds throat erosion grew to 2".

You got a lot of heat in that case. 900 rounds and 0.060 is reasonable to me. However, you've got to mind your manners with that combination. Set her back and she'll come round for you. 50 fps degradation ain't that bad, but watch for key holing as you increase your round count. A sure sign that the throat's gone. Some cartridges like .243 and 6mm BR might only get about 1000 rounds on them before you've got to set them back (match gun, not hunting rifle).
