Tight lift on Savage bolt...

Sorry if this is a "noob" question but...
I've had my Savage 10 to the range 3 different times. I would estimate about 200 rounds through the gun at the most. The action runs smooth forward and back very nice, but the upwards motion of the bolt handle is tight enough that I have to come out of shooting position, hold the rifle secure, and then cycle.
Is this something that will work itself out over time?

it's a savage thing.
google savage bolt lift and you will find some info and diy fixes.
Kevin with Stockade makes a nice little machined part that helps and is well worth the price, give him a call 308.432.5114.

Re: Tight lift on Savage bolt...

Search "Savage Bolt Lift". You can tweak it several ways. I chose the thrust bearing method from Avid RC and put a spacer behind the bolt head to make up the thickness of the bearing.
Works very smooth now and significantly easier to lift after firing.

P.S. if you go the bearing route, order a couple of sets as you may have to match up races that are on the small side with respect to OD to fit inside your bolt. Once you dig into it, you will see what I am talking about.

Re: Tight lift on Savage bolt...

The Savage bolt is generally very stiff, something that happened with me that seems wrong is that when I switch triggers the bolt seemed smoother, but that was probably because I dry fired it about 1000 times
