Took my new CTR in 6.5 Creedmoor to the range to sight in and the rifle absolutely will not extract a spent casing. 100% failure rate. After 5 rounds I gave up. This is the first bolt action that I have ever had this problem with. Any thoughts on how to address this besides trying to send the bolt to beretta? It was a disappointing range outing to say the least. My old Browning A-Bolt ran without a hitch as usual.

129 grain Hornady factory loads. Failure to extract. Spent casing stays in the chamber. Bolt face looks fine as far as I can tell. The rifle also managed to shoot just fine for the few rounds I did fire.

The extractor would push outwards from the bolt face. The ejector would push downwards. You should be able to push the extractor outwards fairly easily but it will have good spring tension.

How did you get the brass out the chamber? Was it easy to get out? Did the brass rim look normal after you pulled it out the chamber?

Forgive my gunsmithing ignorance. The extractor feels kind of week - it pushes out easily but doesn't have a lot of tension.

The first round came out when a slight tap on the buttock. The other rounds I removed with a cleaning rod, with very little force. Brass rims on the spent casings all looked normal.

Appreciate the responses.

You could have gotten a bolt with a out of spec extractor spring and/or a defective extractor. If you can find an extractor spring for your tikka, it would be an easy swap.

Thanks again for the replies. Hopefully Beretta can help. I had the gun in the safe for a while and finally got around to getting my scope and muzzle brake in to take it to the range. Something has to be out of spec but it was definitely disappointing to get out to the range and have this happen on a previously unfired rifle. Will see what CS has to say tomorrow.

Well after some help from Eurooptic I was able to get a rep from Beretta to call me. They want me to ship the whole rifle back. I am starting to think it may be a headspace issue but time will tell.

Will try to post pics later today. Brass looks perfectly fine. Rifle was shipped off to Tikka last night thankfully due to the help from Eurooptic. We will see what Tikka says. I am literally a week over my warranty as the gun has been a safe queen so hopefully they take care of me.

My Tikka did the same thing when it was new, not 100% like yours, but 50% anyway. I bought a new extractor, spring, and plunger from Brownells and it fixed it. Mine is chambered in .223 Remington though.

Well she is all back from Tikka and now throwing brass across the room. It was the extractor, nothing more. Thanks again to Eurooptic for helping out and for Tikka for the quick turnaround.
