My 6.5 is getting cut down soon for ease of transport/looks/use suppressed etc... Ive run ballistic numbers and even 120gr stretches out to 1000 yards without going subsonic. Any thoughts on ideal rifle length here? Its 24" right now. Any reason I should choose 18 over 16? I would like to keep the ability to reach out to 1000 yards but don't have a range within 2-3 hours of me for that distance. My local club has steel out to 500. Probably will never be used for hunting

Primary use is range days.
25% 100 yard groups punching paper
70% steel out to 500 yards
5% 1000 yard steel

You'll lose velocity. It'll still be able to take game at ethical hunting ranges. Paper at 100 won't notice a difference. Steel at 500 won't notice a difference.

Use a chrono to know how much velocity you've lost and adjust your dope sheets to accommodate that.
