Any tips or tricks to processing brass on a Dillon S1050? I have a tool head set-up with a carbide sizing die and a Dillon trimmer, no reloading just processing. I have a bunch of SBS, LC, & WW military brass to process. I plan on using the brass for FAL's, M14, and possibly my MWS.

I do know it doesn't like to deprime the SBS brass. I haven't tried any LC or WW.
Thanks

There's nothing special to any of it, I generally just sort my brass by headstamp, (all I ended up with in the last batch was SBS and LC) and run them. Hell with processing, mine go from the drmo box to tumbler, to spinner, to cookie sheet with some spray, and in the blue bin on top.

When it falls off the other end it's loaded and heads for the tumbler again.

It's works for every M1A I have and we ran a bunch for a friends M60, no problems.

I let the trimmer die do final sizing.

The first station size die is for deprime and to have the exapnder ball fix any problems with the mouth/neck of the case. It is backed off the plate and only just presizes.

Letting the trim die do final size enures the case is snug in the trim die and gives me better consistency on the cases.

Tell me more on how you do this? You set you sizing die not to bump the shoulder? How do you set your trim die? Trial and error and sheck the shoulder? You have to readjust for each batch of brass?
Thanks for the feedback.

The size die in station one I bring to contact with the shell plate and than just back it off to a point I know its not sizing the case all the way.

For setting up the trim sizing die I use a RCBS headspace mic. Currently I am reloading 30-06 but it will be the same when I reload .308. I shoot my 30-06 through three guns, 2X 1903 and 1X M1 Garand. I measured up a bunch of my fired brass and some mil M2 ammo. What I found was if I bump the shoulder about .001-.002 Im good to go in my Garand. Its probably not as ideal for the bolt guns as neck sizing but I want my ammo to work in my 3 guns and my skills wont allow me to realize the benfits of neck size only in the 70 year old 1903 barrels.

This seems to be working so far. I really suggest the use of the RCBS headspace mic or getting a Hornady headspace gauge. The Hornady will allow the use of the tool over a bunch of cartridges while each RCBS mic is cartridge specific. Both give you the same info.

On your loading toolhead make sure you have a universal decapping die in station 1 to remove media from your primer pockets.

Thanks. I use the RCBS mic but haven' tried using the trim die to bump the shoulder. Will try it.

I set mine up via info on the Brian Enos Forum and through contact with Dillon. Their intention is that the trim die be the sizing die. My only concern with it is that it may make the necks slightly undersize for .308. With 168 Custom Competition and 168 SMK's I was getting some shaving if I dont chamfer/deburr. My loaded rounds will show where the bullet has expanded the neck when done. I use no crimp on my rifle rounds.

Let me know what you find out if you hear differently Im still learning this art.
