So I recently got a good deal on a long action Savage with the magnum bolt face and I'm gonna build it over the winter. I basically have the build planned out but i can't decide on what caliber. I've narrowed it down to 4 choices:
-.300 Win Mag
-.300 WSM
-7mm Rem Mag
-7mm RSAUM
The rifle will be used for hunting game up to elk out to 800yrds, and for ELR target shooting, I'd like to eventually reach a mile.
My question is which of these 4 would you choose and why?

I would do a 338 edge, I friend of mine has one of those built on a savage LA and it is ridiculously accurate and hits really hard at 1250yds, we haven't taken any further yet but a 300 gr bullet at 2850 is no slouch.
hope this helps your confusion

Hahahahaha, how would throwing another caliber (more obscure to boot) make it less confusing?

You wont go wrong with any of the four, I have had all of them, and all are great. Right now Im shooting the 7SAUM, with spectacular results I might add. Great velocity, killer flat ballistics, plenty of downrange power, SA friendly, .308 like recoil, good bullet selection. I loved my 300wizzum for better still bullet selection, great downrange power, and complete ignorance of wind and its affects. Either this or the win mag shooting 190smk's or 210VLD's would fit your bill nicely. The 7mag would do give the same results as my SAUM but with a touch more powder, and a long action (which wouldn't be a problem in your case) the payoff however would be good and easily found brass selection. Take your pic, you will prosper with all.
