I am having a difficult time finding a quality torque wrench that would provide the 88"/lb for the AI AE action screws. What are some good wrenches around $100 range that fit the bill?

Thanks!

Just the wrench? Sears (Craftsman) tool section should work just fine. Keep in mind if you layout 10 different wrenches from 3 manufacturers you going to get a slight variance in readings. If you're that serious - play with the tension and then shoot some groups. Mark your wrench according to the best group.

Good luck

I was in the same boat a couple months back. Found a very nice Proto on ebay. Lots of Proto's, Sanp-on's and Craftsman can be had there for half the price of new. Many have seen very little use.

Also interested in this. Is it 88' lbs or 88" lbs? I could find the 88' lbs but the " lbs I could not find. Think the manual calls for 88" lbs but that seemed to light.

Got this off of a car website.

I read in my Hanes that you multiply inch lbs. by .083 to get foot pounds. To convert the other direction, multiply by twelve.

The way I read this would be the 88" lbs would really be 7.3' lbs. correct?

I used one of the many web calculators and it seems about right. The torque value for AI AE action screws that I found here is 10 N*m ~= 88.73 inch/lb

Re: Torque wrench for AI AE action screws suggestions

Andy, glad you started this thread. My action screws are torqued more than that I know. Its shooting great right now so I'm not going to mess with it. When I rebarrel I'll watch it more closely.
