I bought EGW rings and base for my first rifle. Mounted up just fine no issues. I bought TPS rings and base for the second rifle and put the TPS rings on the EGW base. No issue. But, to my dismay. The EGW rings WILL NOT FIT the TPS base. Either the EGW crossbolt is too large or the TPS slots are out of spec. WTF!!!!!
I did get it mounted by filing the rear of the base slot. (I know I should have sent it back but I needed it ASAP.)
I'll post pics and dimensions when I get away from work tomorrow. I have a picatinny drawing here somewhere.
Just venting.

Re: TPS BASE will not work with EGW rings!?

Could be the EGW rings crossbolt uses a more picatinny spec dimension while the TPS base follows weaver style. I've seen some bases that have the notch cut from .180''-.200'' while Pic is still.206''. Even a few hundreths can do it to you. Glad you got it all set up though.

Re: TPS BASE will not work with EGW rings!?

Thanks Trevor. I however have a problem when someone uses the term picatinny and their product is not picatinny spec. .206 +.008 is a lot different than .180 + .02.

From their website.
The XP™ scope rail features a integral recoil shoulder to eliminate the base from moving under heavy recoil.  It has a full length Mil-STD 1913 (Picatinny) rail, built to military specifications, as well as being fully compatible with Weaver-style rings.  The entire scope rail is CNC machined, with the same standards and quality as all of the products from TPS.
In all fairness to TPS I have not measured yet.

Re: TPS BASE will not work with EGW rings!?

Just a heads up, Ive had TPS rings damage the rail on my Pierce. The crossbolt didn't have enough clearance milled into it and barked up the top of my rail under recoil.

Re: TPS BASE will not work with EGW rings!?

I have a set of the EGW HD rings, and had a little trouble getting one to seat in a Nightforce 20 MOA base. It ultimately fit, but took a slight bit of persuasion on my part to get the ring to seat in the slot. Now, I must say that I am not sure whether the issue is with the ring or the base, as the other ring fit without any trouble.

I guess I need to actually pull the ring and measure the cross slots and milled slots in the base, and see which is actually the offending party. I can say, though, that I had no issue with any other rings fitting the base (Nightforce, Burris XTR, TPS).

My EGW HD rings crossbolt is 0.203" which is well within 1913 specs. However the TPS rail slots are 0.197- 0.200. The TPS rail is to blame in my case.

FWIW the two of mine I measured seem to be a little bigger than yours.
What is the mil spec'd dimension? </div></div>
0.206 + 0.008.

Re: TPS BASE will not work with EGW rings!?

Had same problem, popped crossbolt out and repositioned it and it worked I Dunno guess the flat on the crossbolt has to be at a certain place. Good Luck. What do you want for the rings. LOL.

Re: TPS BASE will not work with EGW rings!?

Ok, I finally had a chance to actually do some measuring. The crossbolts on the EGW rings are measuring 0.205 & 0.206, whereas the NF 20 MOA base is pretty much measuring the same (roughly 0.206). That would explain the tight fit! Just as a comparison, the slots on my PRI 20 MOA base measure out at 0.212".

Re: TPS BASE will not work with EGW rings!?

just fell victim to the same issue.
weaver "picatinny style" tactical one piece scope base.
weaver spacing, not picatinny.
My rings are true picatinny.
I am awaiting the arrival of my new base from egw. I have used their parts on my 1911 and find it hard to go wrong with egw products, they are very quality oriented.

I will definitely order from EGW again. I just heeded a shorter rail for this application. I just wish the TPS had worked. I did file the slots so it would work temporarily. TPS "customer service" was a joke. The lady's first response to me was... "We don't make a rail for your rifle". This was a $50 lesson for me to share with you guys. I will buy elsewhere. I honestly like the design of their rings. But, with this experience I have my doubts.

Re: TPS BASE will not work with EGW rings!?

Intereating data from all above. My steel TPS base measures a consistent .2045".

Deadlift thanks for the heads up on the Pierce base/TPS rings. I'll make sure to look at that before i leave their shop when i pickup my new build. I have a set of Steel TPS rings for it & don't want the Pierce rail damaged.
