Hello from Alberta. Long time reader, first time poster. Thought that there might be some interest in this, so here's my project 'log'. Really, about 3 nights part-time work.

Brand new unfired CZ452. Do not like wrist area, got out the belt sander, couple of rasps and some sandpaper, roughly trying to reduce the area taped off:

Wipe down, set it up on my painting 'jig', hit it with Krylon Ultra Flat Olive, followed by matte clearcoat. Paint is still wet here:

Going to add some grip areas, decided to try rubberized automotive rocker panel spray. Mask it off, spray. Multiple coats. If/when I do this again, I will choose a different product, it's messy to work with, shrinks & cracks as it dries necessitating multiple coats, and is not especially tacky to grip.

Let dry for 2 days. Pull off the masking tape, a) it leaves a lot of residue even though it's low-tack painters tape and b) the rocker panel compound has nasty ugly edges from pulling the tape up.

The black is still not fully set, so I decided to put some texture in the forend panels via a hammer and punch.

My daughter (16) said I could use her nail files for grip panels if I wanted. She's grounded now.

Lightly sanded it down to get rid of a) tape residue b) the worst of the shine from the clearcoat. Was unhappy with result, so masked off the grip areas and hit it with more Krylon olive. The matte finish is much more suitable.

Haven't bedded it yet, and will, but tomorrow is a range day so I put on the Tasco 6x24 Varmint I picked up for it. Rings need to be higher, the front focus does turn freely but does juuuuust touch the barrel. I cut a slot out of the front cover so I could put it on.

For now, I'm calling it good.

Used some electricians tape just as a cosmetic mask for the rough edges of the wrist area.

The edges of the forend side panels are the ugliest part of the job. However, they do give a great tactile feel when holding the rifle offhand.

Sorry for the novel length first post, thanks for hanging in this far. Stocks (and most firearms and other accessories) are terrible to get from the USA to Canada, as you may know - mostly USA export regs. Thus I was inspired to DIY. I'll probably keep messing with it, but first let's see how it shoots tomorrow.

Re: Trainer: CZ452 Mods **56K Warning**

Well, the flash accentuates what in normal light is a very plain looking stock. I had a super flamey one that didn't shoot fantastic, that I wasn't going to bubba, sold it and got this one for next to no difference.

It's not for everyone, I knew that before I posted

The grooved hump at the stock end is really not conducive to getting a good grip on the pistol grip.

I had thought of flattening off the sides through the wrist forward to about where the grip panels start (and the action and future bedding will end), and may yet do that. The bottom of the forend is actually quite flat and suitable for riding a bag, so nothing to mess with there. And the LOP is good for me, so again nothing to mess with there. I'll see how comfortable it is tomorrow, but I had even thought of going deeper where I took meat out of the wrist but, having done some woodworking in the past, I know that it's easier to take more out than it is to try and put some back

Again, if aftermarket stocks were readily accessible up here I would have just dropped the coin to get one....but they aren't. I bet there isn't a single one in stock for sale anywhere in the country up here. And getting one from the USA, while not impossible, is a non-starter unless you want to pay a big premium for the export, import, local dealer markup, shipping, etc.

Not sure how much checking around you've done but Boyds sells tha "Tacticool" stock for the CZ and it is only around $100. They will ship to Canada as far as I know and it's not an unreasonable amount to do so.

You may wish to check them out if you're looking for a nice stock.

Hello,

No offense.....

Just a thought... Try burn stippling the next time.

I did this in about 8 hour's. Single point method, thousands of burns.

Enjoy

</div></div>There is a thread in this section about the stocks from Boyds. I am thinking about one of the Boyds Tacticool Stocks unless Manners starts making a stock.
