Could be one of two things, It's pronounced nothing like it's spelled, especially like we would pronounce it in Louisiana

Or Montague in French means "mountain" and it ain't in the mountains!!

Is it becaust Montague Co. Texas is the home of Bowie Texas which was named after James Bowie2?

He was in the battle of the Alamo, is the man the Bowie knife is named after since he is the inventor of the shape. He was a Texas Ranger and COL. in the Texas Militia.
