Hey guys, I know that a few of you here have experience with Manfrotto Tripods. I just bought a floor model on ebay Manfrotto/Bogen 055XPROB, and one of the legs, the one without the padding swings loosely, while the two other paded legs are stiff. I wanted to know is this normal as this is my first tripod. Thanks.

Re: Tripod Question....

No. I just bought the same tripod and all three legs are identical when it comes to rigidity. It fits tight and does not swing loosely. Hope this helps.

Thanks, the shop is checking into it.

Re: Tripod Question....

I have an 055XPROB that is a couple years old and has seen a good bit of use over the years. The legs were pretty darn "stiff" when new and now, they are less stiff than when new, but still takes some effort to maneuver all 3 legs.

If you look down on the tripod on the very top of the legs when they are folded in, there should be an allen key screw head that I believe will allow you to adjust the tension. It is possible that since yours is/was a demo that the one leg's tensioning screw has worked lose (or worst case, it is broken/stripped). Try finding/tightening that screw and see if it improves the tension.

I tried tightening the top screw, no luck, still loose. I sent a message to the shop I bought iot from, they said that they will get back to me. Will this tripod work well with a Mk 4 spotter? Thanks

Oh well...hopefully they'll get you squared away eventually.

The 055XPROB will work fine with the Mk4 spotter although it may be a little overkill since the Mk4 spotter is relatively light at only about 2.25lbs. The nice part about that particular model, aside from the horizontal center column, is that it is heavy-duty enough to work extremely well as a rifle cradle/rest for even a heavy precision rifle rig.

Good to hear, that is another reason why I bought it. Thanks
