Anyone have any experience with this gear?

I am looking for some cold weather outer layers and keep coming across this stuff. I am trying to figure out if It is lined, and will actually keep one warm...

The entire suit can be had for a little over $100, but how does this compare to the issue gore tex stuff?

Any suggestions on good cold weather parks/pants would be great.

Re: Tru-Spec ECWS parka and pants

I've never used the Tru-Spec stuff but if it's made close to MIL-SPEC it will not be lined (insulated). Unlined is better in my book, you can always wear it unlined in warmer weather rain and then work in layers underneath as the weather cools. Pretty Sure the hood is relatively large to fit over a kevlar... but I can't comment on the fit... we were never allowed to use it... I've never had any problems with gear that had a gore-tex "clone"... but as with anything... the most expensive stuff might not be the best... but in general you get what you pay for...

Re: Tru-Spec ECWS parka and pants

I have a good set of woodland parka/pants that were issue gear made by ORCA, that are not insulated, and I like it for that reason. Michigan has taught me how to stay warm with layers, and just keeping the snow off is the most important.

I would rather sport polly-pro and some wool with a waterproof shell.

My current set up has served me well, but this weekend while cutting wood, I dragged the chainsaw across the top of my thigh, cutting through me woodland rain pants, jeans, but not a mark on the poly-pro. As glad as I was not to be laying on the ditch bleeding out, I sure was pissed that I ruined my pants.

Go buy Arcteryx stuff and never worry about gear again. Its well worth the price and is made 100x's better than Tru-Spec.

Check out the Woolrich Elite Parka and waterproof pants. They work great. I used the parka all day in a down pour and stayed dry.

Re: Tru-Spec ECWS parka and pants

I have bought I pair or Tru Spec pants and will never again. I had to have every belt loop re-sewn, zipper, and seams. All before I even tried them on. The belt loops literally ripped off just tugging on them.

Re: Tru-Spec ECWS parka and pants

Well, I would be using this stuff hard, and matches on top of that. It has to last through punishing use. The woodland gore tex worked o.k..

Not looking for super high end weekend warrior wear.
