I've been looking at the rem 700 sps tac, but then ppl keep talking about the savage 10pc now the pc is about 150$ more up here in canada is it worth the extra money? Or I could save up a bit more and it would come down to the rem 700 5r or the savage 10fcp HS stock, now the hs is about 200$ cheeper. Now what would u choose in each money bracket? And is the extra money almost double the cost worth it over the starter tack drivers?

Re: Trying to get my first target rifle some questions

This is about the 4th time this week I've answered this....

Ok.. SPS tactical is fine great rifle actually.. Dont forget you have to add in $$ for scope rings base and all that junk.. So if your on a budget get the SPS tactical. The savages are great rifles but personally the action isnt as solid as the 700.. Everyone here will basically tell you get the 700 because its one of the most trusted plat forms out right now and probably will be for a while.

Go to your local gun store and ask the dealer to let you try both of them.. and play around with it see how it feels in your hands.. Dont bother asking the guy behind the desk what is better or anything because have the timke they BS everything and just streight up lie to seem like a big shot because they work at a gun store.

And dont be suprised if you dont ask him something he'll feel the need to tell you everything about it and his opinion.. POart of their job but just shrug it off because 97% of the time its wrong.

Just look around here for a while and other forums and just see what people say about the reviews of some products your in the market for it will get you a lot farther than asking any of the gun store guys.

If it doesnt pop up google it due to it probably being reviewed already. Trust me this advice will save you a lot of time and I just weish someone said this to me when I got into the rifle/ gun game.

Edit: I have a feeling your ganna ask so get it in .308.

Re: Trying to get my first target rifle some questions

somethings to consider are length of barrel, are things like barrel fluting important to you, what rate of twist do you want, do you want to try to bed the action to a custom stock down the road or do you want it bedded out of the gate. Figure out what exactly you want and a obvious choice will emerge.

I wanted a 1:10 twist heavy short barrel, and wanted to put my own stock on the action down the road. So that left 2 choices remington 700 sps aac-sd, or savage 10pc (Iam sure there are more, but these 2 ere in my price range). The remmy was hard to find at a decent price, plus I am always drawn to the black sheep

Re: Trying to get my first target rifle some questions

Ya I want a 308, ya the rem sps tac is nice and i like the feel of it, but what about the more expensive models whats best? And i'm just getting into this so I wont be tweeking the gun much for a while, so i want out of the box accuracy. I'm not looking to hit 1/4" moa or anything just something to build my love of shooting.

Re: Trying to get my first target rifle some questions

For the money I would choose either.

Savage longe range precision varminter, HS stock, model 12 target action, all stainless, heavy barrel, 4 friends each own one and they all shoot awsome.

Or

Rem 700 5R, all stainless, HS stock, relativly heavy barrel, 1 friend owns one and it also shoots awsome.

Re: Trying to get my first target rifle some questions

Ya I found a savage 10 pc hs witha 3200 elite 5-15x40 scope for 1300 with only 70 shots down the barrel I live in canada so the prices are a bit higher then my southern neighbours. Just can't decide if i want that over a brand new sps tactical
